Texas A&M’s trip to No. 21 South Carolina arrives with a lot more hanging over it than just another SEC road game.
The Aggies are back on the road to face the Gamecocks for the first time since the 2024 season, when Texas A&M pulled off a wild 31-30 comeback after trailing 30-3 at halftime. That loss nearly cost South Carolina coach Shane Beamer his job. This time, the two teams are headed in very different directions.
South Carolina has won three straight, and last Saturday’s 45-25 road victory over Oklahoma only strengthened that run. Texas A&M, meanwhile, enters Week 10 with only one SEC win, that coming against Arkansas. The Aggies also failed to score a touchdown in road losses to LSU and Missouri.
A big reason for the frustration has been Texas A&M’s offense, which has been flat for much of the season. Starting quarterback Marcel Reed leads the Aggies’ 109th-ranked passing attack and has thrown for 1,380 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. Mike Elko’s choice to stick with Reed has drawn plenty of skepticism from fans and much of the media.
First-year offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins has also been under the microscope. Texas A&M’s offense ranks 70th nationally, while the rushing attack sits 72nd. Freshman running back KJ Edwards has given the ground game a boost, taking over as the starter and leading the team with 360 yards and two touchdowns.
If the Aggies’ offense again looks lifeless against South Carolina, the pressure on Wiggins will only grow. The Gamecocks’ defense ranks 91st against the pass and 73rd on third down, and another poor showing could leave Wiggins’ job security on shaky ground. It could also push Elko toward making a move before the season ends so he can get an early start on finding Texas A&M’s next offensive coordinator.
Elko’s decision to promote Wiggins and first-year defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill instead of going outside the program to replace Collin Klein and Jay Bateman has already come under scrutiny. He may want to give Wiggins a second season with a different quarterback, but the pressure is on to make major changes before the offseason.

Nebraska Volleyball Just Took A Recruiting Hit Fans Wont Ignore
Kendall Omoruyis recruiting change gives Texas A&M another notable piece for its volleyball future, and it arrives at a moment when the programs profile is already rising. The top recruit had originally pledged to Nebraska, but she announced she is now headed to College Station, saying the move reflects her personal growth and faith while also thanking Nebraskas coaching staff for their role in her journey.
For the Aggies, the addition fits neatly into a roster that just delivered the schools first national championship and now looks even deeper in the middle. Omoruyi joins a strong group of blockers, giving Texas A&M another high-end option as it tries to build on that title run and keep the momentum going in the seasons ahead. [Read more 🡒]
Texas A&M Gets One Injury Boost As Offensive Concern Lingers
Texas A&Ms latest injury report brought at least one bit of good news ahead of the South Carolina matchup, with linebacker Noah Mikhail moving to probable. The Aggies still have some work to do on the offensive side, though, as wide receivers Terry Bussey and Kelshaun Johnson and offensive lineman Blake Ivy were all ruled out for the game.
The bigger concern remains the uncertainty around KJ Edwards and Ashton Bethel-Roman, both listed as questionable as Texas A&M tries to sort out its skill-position depth. South Carolina has its own injury issues to manage, but the Aggies are the ones still waiting on a clearer answer about how healthy their offense will be when kickoff arrives. [Read more 🡒]
Texas A&M Is Already Pushing Ahead At A Tense Recruiting Spot
Texas A&M is already working ahead on the recruiting trail, and one of the newer names to surface is Troy Bishop, a rising 2028 four-star safety from Mater Dei High School. The scholarship offer is another sign that Mike Elkos staff is keeping an eye on the next wave of defensive back talent while still trying to maintain momentum with the classes in front of it.
The timing matters because the Aggies have some uncertainty around their 2027 group after recent commitment changes, which puts a little more pressure on every move they make with secondary prospects. Bishop is part of a broader defensive back picture Texas A&M is monitoring, and Elko has to balance the rest of the 2026 season with the recruiting cycles that will shape the roster beyond it.
