Texas A&M heads into the upcoming season with a roster that looks noticeably stronger on both sides of the ball, and a few position groups stand out as the biggest reasons why.
Head coach Mike Elko has assembled a team built for the 2026-27 campaign through a mix of high school additions, transfer portal help, and key retentions from last year’s squad. That blend has created a sense that the Aggies have the pieces to handle just about any opponent they run into.
The most obvious upgrade may be at wide receiver, where the room is set for a new system under offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins. With Collin Klein gone, the offense will run through a different playbook, but the transition should be smoother because Wiggins comes from within the program and already knows the personnel.
The returning names are easy to spot. Mario Craver, Ashton Bethel Roman, and Terry Bussey are all back, and Alabama transfer Isaiah Horton is now in the mix as well. Each of those players has already shown production, with at least one touchdown last year, at least 18 receptions, and an average of 10.8 receiving yards or more.
Craver and Bethel Roman were especially productive in the Maroon and White offense, combining for more than 1,400 yards and nine touchdowns. With Marcel Reed back at quarterback, those numbers could climb again. Add in a healthy Bussey and a refreshed Horton, and the room has the look of a group that can do damage in a hurry.
The secondary also belongs near the top of the list. Texas A&M has a lot of returners back there, and several of them are entering an important Year 3 under Elko & Co. Safety Marcus Ratcliffe, a captain on this year’s team, is back alongside Bryce Anderson, Dezz Ricks, and Dalton Brooks.
That group has already gone through the growing pains of last season and now gets a chance to clean up the mistakes. One of the biggest areas of emphasis has been turnovers, especially after the Aggies finished 2025 with only three. That number has clearly stuck with the defense, and it has become a major point of motivation heading into the new season.
Another room that looks ready to take a step is tight end. The coaching staff made it a priority to improve there during the offseason, and the result was a wave of transfer additions designed to give the offense more versatility.
Houston Thomas arrived from UTSA, Richie Anderson Ⅲ came over from Fresno State, and captain Micah Riley is also in the mix. All three bring the kind of traits that matter in that spot: blocking ability, route-running, contested-catch skill, and usefulness in both the run game and the passing game.
With their size, strength, and body control, this group could end up being one of the most complete tight end rooms Texas A&M has had in a while.
