Miami added another major piece to its 2027 recruiting class Wednesday night, landing four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside after flipping him from Texas A&M.
Whiteside announced the move on social media, ending a commitment to the Aggies that had only been in place since June 1. The 6-2, 205-pound defender is ranked by 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 27 linebacker and No. 347 player in the 2027 class.
The Burleson, Texas, native had been on Miami’s campus for the Hurricanes’ home game against Florida State this weekend, and he made clear beforehand what he wanted to see from the program. He said he was looking for “energy, physicality and competitiveness.”
“It’s a big rivalry game, so I want to see how the team responds to that atmosphere and competes for four quarters,” Whiteside said.
Even after his Texas A&M pledge, Miami kept pressing. Whiteside said last week, “Miami has definitely continued to recruit me hard and show me a lot of love,” and that persistence paid off.
On the field, Whiteside has put together a strong season. He posted 46 tackles, three tackles for loss and a forced fumble last season, then followed with 91 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, four sacks and one forced fumble this year. He also added a punt return touchdown.
A UM source said the Hurricanes value more than just his production. Whiteside’s father played in the NFL and CFL, and Miami likes his high GPA, maturity and intelligence along with his athleticism.
He now joins two other blue-chip linebackers in Miami’s 2027 class, A.J. Randle Jr. and Noah Glover.

Texas A&M Just Took A Recruiting Hit Fans Will Notice
Texas A&M took a notable recruiting blow when four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside backed off his pledge and flipped to Miami after an official visit to Coral Gables. Whiteside had committed to the Aggies in June, so this one lands as more than a routine late change in a long recruiting cycle, especially for a program trying to keep momentum rolling on the trail.
Even with Whiteside moving on, the bigger picture in College Station has not changed all that much. Texas A&M is still in line to finish with a top class in the 2027 cycle, which is why this loss stings more as a reminder of how fragile commitments can be than as a sign of a broader collapse. Still, when a four-star defender chooses another school after being in the fold for months, it is the kind of development fans notice right away. [Read more 🡒]
Texas A&M Gets One Small Sign Of How Alabama Week Is Framed
Texas A&M heads into Alabama week with a little bit of breathing room after the 41-0 shutout of The Citadel, a win that at least let the Aggies reset after a rough SEC stretch. At 4-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play, the bigger question now is how they handle No. 13 Alabama, a program dealing with its own recent stumbles but still bringing plenty of talent and a new quarterback storyline of its own in Keelon Russell.
For A&M, the framing of this matchup starts under center, where redshirt junior Marcel Reed is expected to keep the job despite recent struggles. The Aggies will need more than a cleaner offensive showing, though, because the challenge is just as much about matching up with Alabamas offense and protecting a defense that is about to be tested in a much different way than it was against The Citadel. Texas A&M Fans Will Be Watching Isaiah Horton For One Reason
Isaiah Hortons season has already become one of the more curious storylines for Texas A&M, mostly because the expectations around him were higher than what the production has shown so far. The wide receiver has had trouble finding consistent footing, and the red zone has been the clearest issue, with his scoring drought stretching back to the early part of the season.
The scrutiny only sharpened after the recent game against The Citadel, when a social media post attributed to his father publicly called out Hortons effort and urged him to be better. For Aggies fans, the next few games now carry a little extra weight, because Hortons response will say plenty about whether this remains a rough patch or turns into something more concerning.
