Texas A&M kept its momentum rolling on the recruiting trail Saturday, adding another major piece to the top-ranked 2027 class with the commitment of four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen.
Allen, one of the top players in New Jersey, chose the Aggies over Texas and South Carolina. His pledge gives Mike Elko and his staff their 26th commitment in the 2027 cycle, and it comes after Texas A&M already added five-star linebacker Kaeden Henderson, one of the elite athletes in the class.
The Aggies have made linebacker a clear priority. After bringing in four linebacker commitments in the 2026 class, Elko and new linebackers coach Travis Williams turned their attention to Allen, a defender viewed as one of the more underrated prospects with real NFL upside. He fits alongside Henderson, whose speed and pass-rush ability give Texas A&M another dynamic piece in the front seven.
Allen also arrives at a position where Texas A&M has been searching for more consistency. That has been a lingering issue dating back to the Kevin Sumlin years.
Former three-year starter Taurean York was productive, but size was a concern. Heading into the 2026 season, only senior Daymion Sanford is listed below 6-foot, while projected starters Ray Coney and Noah Mikhail are both 6-2 and over 220 pounds.
At 6-2 and 235 pounds, Allen brings the kind of frame Texas A&M wants in the middle of its defense. Andrew Ivins, 247Sports’ Director of Scouting, described him as a player who can handle plenty of different responsibilities.
"Can do a little bit of everything as he can attack the corner while playing on the ball, shoot gaps when positioned off the ball and impact passing lanes in coverage."
Allen backed up that versatility during his 2025 junior season, when he finished with 58 tackles, 7 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions.

Mike Elko May Have Found Texas A&Ms Next Impact Pass Rusher
Anto Saka arrives in College Station with the kind of profile Texas A&M has been chasing under Mike Elko: a transfer edge rusher whose best football may still be ahead of him. After three seasons at Northwestern, Saka did enough to get noticed, and the Aggies are betting that a change of scenery and a more aggressive defensive setting can help turn his pressure into consistent disruption off the edge.
The early expectation is that Saka will step right into a starting role at defensive end, giving A&M another piece to pair with its pass-rush plan. NFL scouts are already paying attention, too, which adds another layer to why this move matters for the Aggies. If Saka can convert the flashes that have drawn that interest into a bigger season in Elkos system, he could become one of the more important additions on the roster. [Read more 🡒]
Texas A&M Already Has Major 2028 Recruiting Momentum To Protect
Texas A&Ms 2027 class already sits at the top of the national board, but the bigger long-term story in College Station is how quickly the staff is trying to turn that success into a head start on 2028. Under Mike Elko, the Aggies have made recruiting momentum part of the programs identity, and early interest from a handful of high-end prospects suggests the next cycle could get moving fast if A&M keeps stacking relationships now.
The early board includes a quarterback the staff likes, along with an edge defender and an offensive tackle who fit the kind of talent profile Texas A&M has been chasing. Even with competition from other schools, the Aggies are in position to stay relevant with all three, which is the point of getting ahead this early: build trust now, and hope the class starts to take shape before the rest of the country fully catches up.
