Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class took a hit when four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside flipped to Miami, but the Aggies still have plenty of momentum with another blue-chip defender in the fold.
Five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson remains firmly committed to Texas A&M, and after a big night in Florida, he confirmed he’ll be back in College Station for Texas A&M’s game against Tennessee on Saturday, November 14. He closed his message to Aggie fans with a “Gig ’Em.”
Henderson turned in a massive performance for Jesuit in Tampa, helping the Tigers edge Catholic 21-20 on Friday night. According to TexAgs recruiting insider Jason Howell, the five-star linebacker changed the game with a pick-six and then finished it off with a game-ending sack to preserve the win.
For Mike Elko and his staff, Henderson looks like a central piece of the 2027 class. Texas A&M’s No. 1-ranked group has stayed intact overall, and the coaching staff has reportedly built strong relationships with all 25 commits, including Henderson.
The need for him is obvious, too. With senior Daymion Sanford and transfer Ray Coney expected to move on after the 2026 season, the linebacker room could open up quickly. Henderson’s speed, range, tackling, and instincts make him a natural fit to compete for a starting job right away.
He also profiles as a useful weapon on third down, where his ability to rush the passer and hold up in coverage could give the Aggies an immediate boost.

Mississippi State Is Forced Into A Texas QB Move That Matters To A&M
Mississippi States quarterback situation took another turn this week when Kamario Taylor was ruled out for the rest of the season with turf toe, leaving the Bulldogs to pivot again as they prepare for No. 11 Texas. Senior AJ Swann will get the start, stepping in after previously working as a backup and bringing a winding college path that has included stops at Vanderbilt, LSU and Appalachian State.
For Texas A&M, the move matters because Mississippi States offense now has a different look heading into a game that can ripple through the SEC race. Swann replaces freshman Parker Puckett at the top of the depth chart, and the Bulldogs will be asking a veteran reserve to steady things against a ranked opponent in a matchup that could have downstream implications for teams watching the standings closely. Texas A&M Bye Week Puts One Frustrating Question Front And Center
Texas A&M is using its Week 10 bye the way most good teams hope to use one, by getting healthier and taking a hard look at what has worked and what still needs cleaning up. Mike Elko said the Aggies are spending the week resting players and evaluating performance as they turn toward a Nov. 7 meeting with South Carolina, a stretch that should tell them a lot about where they stand heading into the final push.
Marcel Reed remains the starter, which at least settles one part of the conversation, even if his play has left some room for debate. For Texas A&M, the bye is less about a reset than a chance to sharpen the game plan and get the offense and the rest of the roster in better shape before the schedule tightens again. [Read more 🡒]
Texas A&M Bye Week Puts Mike Elko On The Spot
Texas A&M heads into the bye week at 4-4 after a 31-20 loss to Alabama, and the break arrives with a familiar set of questions hanging over the program. The passing game never found much rhythm against the Crimson Tide, and early interceptions helped put the Aggies in a hole before the offense faded again late, with no fourth-quarter scoring to show for it.
Mike Elko now has two weeks to sort through the issues that have kept Texas A&M from finding more consistency on offense and in game management. The next chance to show progress comes against South Carolina, where the Aggies will be judged less by the bye-week message and more by whether the passing game looks steadier and the late-game execution finally improves.
