Texas A&M is getting an unexpected boost in the middle of fall camp, with a future defensive back arriving sooner than planned.
Per reports from 247Sports, Aggies 2027 three-star safety commit Loia Valade is reclassifying to the 2026 class and will join the program this season. What looked like a long runway for the young safety has suddenly been shortened, giving Texas A&M a chance to start developing him in College Station a year earlier than expected.
The move is a surprise, but it gives both sides a clear benefit. Valade gets a head start with the coaching staff, and Texas A&M adds another body to the roster during camp. The 2026 season is likely to function as a redshirt-like year for him, though the recent 5-by-5 ruling means he can still play in games without burning eligibility.
If Valade does see the field, the most likely opportunities appear to be in the season opener against Missouri State and on Oct. 17 vs. The Citadel.
Texas A&M’s biggest in-state rival has already gone through something similar. The Texas Longhorns added No. 1 2027 cornerback John Meredith to this season’s roster after he reclassified, and Aggies fans know that name well - Meredith had Texas A&M among his finalists during the recruiting process.
For Texas A&M, the move mirrors what Texas did with Meredith: get a young player into the SEC environment early and let the learning curve begin now rather than after another year in high school.

Mike Elko Sees One Early Battle Defining Texas A&M Fall Camp
Texas A&Ms fall camp moved into a more revealing stage with an intersquad scrimmage that gave Mike Elko a first real look at how the pieces are fitting together for the 2026 season. The Aggies got through the day cleanly enough from an operation standpoint, and Elko came away with a sense that the structure is there, even if a first scrimmage naturally comes with some rough edges.
The bigger takeaway, though, is the battle unfolding in the defensive front seven, where jobs are still very much up for grabs. Elko pointed to the groups competitive progress as the sort of early camp development that can shape the rest of August, with Ray Coney, Noah Mikhail and Jordan Lockhart among the players pushing to separate themselves as the decisions start to come into focus. Texas A&M Suddenly Has A Crucial Eligibility Break To Watch
Texas A&M has spent much of the last two seasons navigating the gray area of college eligibility, with disputes touching Rashaun Agee, Bryson Warren and Jordan Pope. Now the latest development comes with broader consequences, after a court ruling in the NCAA lawsuit opened the door for dozens of players to keep playing while their cases work through the legal system.
For the Aggies, the stakes are not just about one roster decision but about how quickly the transfer landscape can shift around them. The ruling also affects how certain transfer rules are enforced and keeps the portal open through Aug. 24, leaving Texas A&M to monitor a situation that could shape both its current roster options and the next round of recruiting movement. Texas A&Ms Backcourt Just Took A Painful Turn With Bryson Warren
Texas A&Ms backcourt picture got more complicated this week when the NCAA handed down a ruling involving former G League guard Bryson Warren, a player the Aggies had hoped to add as they continue sorting out their roster for the future. On the same day, the program also got a boost elsewhere when Pope was granted a temporary restraining order that lets him join the team while his eligibility case plays out against the NCAA.
Warrens situation now adds another layer to the uncertainty around how Texas A&M will piece together its guard rotation going forward. He is expected to challenge the decision, and the possibility of a broader legal fight keeps the matter from being settled anytime soon, leaving the Aggies waiting to see whether another potential contributor can ultimately be cleared.
