Texas A&M is right in the thick of the race for one of the top quarterbacks in the 2028 class.
Per reports from Rivals, the Aggies are among the final three schools for five-star quarterback Donald Tabron II. LSU and Oregon are the other two programs still standing, and Tabron is set to announce his commitment on Aug. 15.
Texas A&M has been considered one of the frontrunners throughout his recruitment, and now the staff has a real chance to finish the job. With the field narrowed to three, the Aggies will need one more strong push to hold off Oregon and LSU.
That belief got a boost last month when 247Sports projected Tabron to land at Texas A&M, a sign that the Aggies may currently have the edge.
Tabron, a Cass Technical product out of Detroit, MI., is ranked as the No. 3 overall quarterback and a five-star prospect in the 247 composite rankings. He is listed at nearly 6-4 and 180 pounds, with room to keep developing physically.
His offer sheet is loaded with heavy hitters, including Ohio State, Miami, Indiana and Michigan, but Texas A&M has managed to separate itself from the pack.
LSU and Oregon are the names most fans would usually connect with elite quarterback development, yet Texas A&M has positioned itself to potentially win this battle. Nothing is locked in yet, but the Aggies have made this a very real possibility.
That’s notable because Texas A&M usually isn’t viewed as a quarterback factory. Mike Elko comes from the defensive side of the ball, and the program hasn’t been known for pumping first-round quarterbacks into the NFL every year.
Still, since Elko took over, the Aggies have stayed in the mix for some of the nation’s best passers. Tabron is the latest example. Texas A&M was also a finalist for 2028 five-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence before he committed to Texas.
The 2027 cycle has followed a similar pattern. The Aggies already hold a commitment from quarterback Jayce Johnson, and they were also finalists for Trae Taylor, the No. 1 overall passer in that class.
For Texas A&M, the message is clear: Elko and his staff keep putting themselves in prime position with elite quarterbacks, and they’re doing it again with Tabron.
