Texas A&M is already looking down the road at quarterback, and the Aggies just picked up another strong sign that their future plans could include one of the top arms in the 2028 class.
With redshirt junior Marcel Reed set to carry the offense into the 2026 season, Texas A&M needs him to keep climbing after a year that saw him throw for a career-high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns. The flip side is hard to ignore, though: his 12 interceptions were tied for the second-most in the SEC, and that’s the kind of number the Aggies can’t afford to carry if they want another trip to the College Football Playoff.
There’s also the bigger-picture question hanging over the program after 2026. Reed may not be back beyond this season and could explore the NFL Draft if he performs the way Texas A&M hopes he will. That makes the quarterback pipeline a priority, and third-year coach Mike Elko is already working to keep it stocked after landing four-star QB Jayce Johnson in the No. 1-ranked 2027 cycle.
One of the names to watch is Donald Tabron II, a blue-chip four-star from Detroit’s Cass Technical. Early in the offseason, Tabron turned heads at a Texas A&M camp, and the Aggies have stayed in a strong spot with him even as Michigan continues to push. Elko and quarterbacks coach Joey Lynch appear to be in prime position to land his commitment before his junior season at Cass Technical.
The buzz around Texas A&M is real enough that the Aggies are listed with a 90% chance to secure Tabron. On Thursday, Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman went a step further and predicted Texas A&M would land him.

From speaking with sources informed on this recruitment, the Aggies made a substantial impression on the top-30 prospect in the 2028 class and have put themselves in a favorable position with Tabron since his time in College Station.

Tabron checks in at 6'4" and 190 pounds, giving him plenty of room to add size as he develops. He first jumped onto Mike Elko’s radar after a freshman season that included 1,656 passing yards and 17 touchdowns.
