Texas A&M picked up a recruiting break before kickoff in Baton Rouge, as quarterback commit Donald Tabron II backed off a planned LSU visit for Saturday night’s game against the Aggies.
Tabron had originally been set to take in LSU’s matchup with Texas A&M, but less than 24 hours after that trip became public, he canceled it, according to Rivals. That leaves Lane Kiffin and LSU without the chance to make a push in person, and it also strengthens the feeling that Tabron may be nearing a point where he shuts down his recruitment in the not-too-distant future.
For Mike Elko and Texas A&M, the timing is a clean win. LSU has long carried the reputation of being one of college football’s premier quarterback pipelines, with multiple Heisman Trophy winners and several other draft picks at the position over the last decade. Even with that kind of draw, Tabron is staying locked in with the Aggies for now.
The relationship he has built with Texas A&M’s coaching staff appears to be doing real work here. He may have wanted to see the Aggies play in Death Valley, but that visit never materialized. Instead of spending the weekend in LSU gear in Baton Rouge, Tabron will be elsewhere.
And with the LSU trip scrapped after it was so close to happening, Aggie fans should probably expect a Texas A&M visit to be in the cards at some point this season.
Tabron, a product of Cass Technical in Detroit, Michigan, is a five-star prospect in the 2028 recruiting class, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He’s picked up offers from Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Indiana, Louisville, UCLA, Auburn, Vanderbilt and others.
At nearly 6-4 and 188 pounds, Tabron already has the frame to grow into an elite college quarterback, and he could add more before arriving in College Station for his freshman year.
In the 2025 season at Cass Technical, Tabron threw for 2,819 yards and 35 touchdowns.
