Brandon Arrington brings a different kind of intrigue. The 6-foot-2 cornerback from San Diego, California, was ranked as the No. 8 player in his class and arrives with a résumé that fits what Texas A&M wants on defense.
He developed strong ties with coaches Jordan Peterson and Bryant Gross-Armiento, which helped make Aggieland the right fit. Arrington also comes in as a two-way standout, with production at wide receiver and cornerback, plus a record-setting track background.
His numbers tell the story: 78 total tackles, 68 receptions for 1,342 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s also rushed the football and taken kickoff returns, giving the Aggies another versatile option to deploy wherever needed.
Then there’s KJ Edwards, a running back who could carve out a role simply by being too explosive to ignore. Texas A&M’s backfield is crowded, but Edwards has the kind of burst that can earn him a few touches early as he gets comfortable with the system.
The Carthage High School product can work outside or hammer away inside, and he runs with the kind of power that makes him a tough finish for defenders. He closed his senior season with 2,085 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns, a reminder that he arrives in College Station already proven as a scorer.
All three freshmen have the tools to surprise people this season, even if their roles start small. At Texas A&M, that kind of talent tends to find its way onto the field sooner rather than later.
