Texas A&M Freshmen Are Suddenly Pushing A Real Playing Time Debate

With top-rated freshmen like Brandon Arrington and KJ Edwards already turning heads, Texas A&M's formidable 2027 class is set to make an immediate impact on the field.

Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class has grabbed plenty of attention, and for good reason. It’s being billed as a group that could surge to the top of the national rankings, and the hype around that haul has been hard to miss.

But the Aggies already have major talent sitting on campus, and EA College Football 27 just gave that reality another spotlight. A fresh list of the game’s highest-rated freshmen includes two Texas A&M names: cornerback Brandon Arrington and running back KJ Edwards.

Arrington has been one of the most talked-about young Aggies lately, and his rating only adds to the buzz. He’s tied for the second-highest rated freshman on the list, behind only Lamar Brown. Arrington is grouped with Michigan running back Savion Hiter and Miami offensive lineman Jackson Cantwell, who had significant interest in Texas A&M at one point.

Brown’s spot at the top comes with its own sting for Aggie fans, while the source of that frustration is now headed to Baton Rouge under Lane Kiffin.

Edwards brings a different kind of appeal. He’s a smaller back, but his production has already made an impression, and there’s already video circulating of his physical style in practice. That kind of showing makes it easier to picture him fitting into an SEC backfield.

The path to snaps looks more immediate for Edwards than it does for Arrington. Texas A&M has premium options ahead of Arrington at corner, with Dezz Ricks, Rickey Gibson and Julio Humphrey all in the mix for those spots. That makes the corner rotation a tougher climb than the one Edwards faces at running back.

Still, both players look like important pieces for what comes next in College Station. Edwards could have a role this season, possibly in a lane similar to what Jamarion Morrow provided last year, and Arrington has a chance to break into the cornerback rotation if things fall his way.

Texas A&Ms First 9-Game SEC Grind Just Took Another Turn

Texas A&Ms move into a nine-game SEC schedule in 2026 adds another layer to a year that already figures to ask plenty of this roster. The Aggies are coming back with 65% of their 2025 team intact, and they supplemented that group with 17 transfer portal additions while building a 2026 signing class designed to help them withstand the heavier conference load.

The timing of Tennessee safety Edrees Farooqs torn patellar tendon only sharpens the challenge waiting deeper in the league race, because the kind of SEC slate Texas A&M is about to face tends to punish any weakness and reward depth. With the second half of the schedule shaping up as the true test, the Aggies will need the mix of returning production and new personnel to hold up when the games start piling up. [Read more 🡒]

Texas A&M Fans Just Got Another Brutal NFL Injury Update

Another former Texas A&M lineman is headed for a season on the sidelines before his NFL career even had a chance to get rolling. Chase Bisontis, who joined the Arizona Cardinals as an offensive guard, was injured in a preseason game and now faces surgery after suffering a torn MCL.

The setback adds to a rough stretch for Aggies fans tracking former players in the league, since Bisontis is now the second Texas A&M product to be ruled out for the upcoming NFL season because of a knee injury, following Nic Scourtons ACL issue. Arizona has already placed Bisontis on injured reserve, leaving his rookie year on hold before it ever truly began. [Read more 🡒]
