Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting run may not be done making noise.
The Aggies are already positioned to finish with the No. 1 overall class in the cycle, and now they’ve surfaced as the team to watch for Florida State wide receiver commit Za'Kari Johnson. According to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, Texas A&M is the current leader in Johnson’s recruitment.
Johnson, who reclassified from 2028 to 2027 this past summer, could now be in line to join Texas A&M’s freshman class as soon as next season. He originally pledged to Florida State in July, but a recent visit to College Station appears to have changed the picture.

Johnson, a Miami Carol City product from Opa Locka, FL., was on hand for Texas A&M’s season opener against Missouri State and reportedly came away impressed.
“Blown away from the minute he arrived in College Station for that atmosphere at Kyle Field,” Wiltfong said. “Getting around that staff, this program that made the College Football Playoff last year and hosted a home game.

The combination of Texas A&M’s recruiting momentum and Florida State’s struggles under Mike Norvell appears to be pushing this one in the Aggies’ direction.
It’s still a wait-and-see situation, but the signs point toward Texas A&M as the team best positioned to pull Johnson away from Florida State.
“I love where the Aggies stand right there for Za'Kari Johnson,” Wiltfong said.

Texas A&Ms Week 2 matchup with Arizona State is shaping up to matter well beyond the scoreboard. The home game will bring a packed recruiting guest list to College Station, with the Aggies set to host several top football prospects from the 2027, 2028 and 2029 classes, including a mix of highly ranked commits and other marquee targets.
Mike Elko and GM Derek Miller will use the weekend to keep building those relationships with a group that includes multiple five-star and four-star recruits. Texas A&M Secondary Faces A Real Test Against Arizona State
Texas A&Ms defensive backfield is still sorting itself out as the Aggies get ready for Arizona State, with safety Tawfiq Byard expected to be out after missing warmups while recovering from an injury. His absence puts added pressure on a secondary that will need to stay steady against a real test, and the Aggies are likely to lean heavily on Marcus Ratcliffe and Dalton Brooks to handle most of the work at safety.
There is at least some encouraging news on the defensive side, though, with linebacker Daymion Sanford trending toward a return after being sidelined by a spring game injury. Aggies Defense Could Get A Huge Boost Fans Are Still Waiting On
Texas A&Ms defense could be getting a meaningful reinforcement as it prepares for Arizona State, with linebacker Daymion Sanford listed as a game-time decision after working back from a broken fibula suffered in the spring game. Sanford has not played this season, but he did dress out for the Missouri State game, a small sign that his return has been moving in the right direction.
The Aggies have managed fine without him so far, thanks to solid play from the rest of the linebacker group, but Sanford remains the kind of piece that can raise the ceiling of that unit.
