Week 4 turned the Coaches Poll into a full-blown shuffle, and the biggest shockwaves landed right in the middle of the rankings. Six ranked teams went down in a slate packed with marquee matchups, and that kind of carnage always forces voters to redraw the map.
Texas is still sitting at No. 1, and the Longhorns have the kind of resume that keeps them there: wins over Ohio State and Tennessee, including a 20-17 result against the Volunteers in Week 4. Georgia stays right behind at No. 2 after blasting Oklahoma 41-13 and making a strong first real statement of the season.
Notre Dame remains No. 3, while Miami (FL) climbs to No. 4 and Indiana checks in at No. 5.
Florida made one of the week’s biggest jumps, vaulting all the way to No. 8 after a 52-28 win. The Gators were No. 22 last week, so that’s a major leap.
The other eye-catching rise belongs to Iowa, which moves up to No. 14 after starting the week at No. 17.
Ole Miss took the hardest fall among the top teams that lost. The Rebels dropped to No. 12 after being No. 6 in the previous poll.
USC also slid after its loss to Oregon, landing at No. 18.
Tennessee fell four spots to No. 17, while Penn State’s loss to unranked Wisconsin sent the Nittany Lions tumbling eight places to No. 22.
Michigan dropped to No. 24 after its defeat, and Oklahoma is out entirely after entering last week at No. 24 and taking its second loss of the season.
The rest of the top 10 has Ohio State at No. 6, Alabama at No.
7, BYU at No. 9 and Texas Tech at No. 10.
LSU sits at No. 11, Utah is No.
13, Oregon is No. 15 and Mississippi State debuts at No. 16 after being unranked. SMU enters at No.
19, Houston at No. 20, Duke at No.
21, UCLA at No. 23 and Missouri rounds out the poll at No. 25.
