Mike Elko Just Made Texas A&Ms 2027 Class Even Scarier

Texas A&M's recruiting momentum reaches new heights with the latest commitment, but can they maintain their lead in the highly competitive 2027 cycle?

Texas A&M’s recruiting surge picked up another major piece with the commitment of five-star Eric McFarland, and the number that stands out now is eight. That’s how many top-50 recruits coach Mike Elko has lined up in the 2027 class, a haul that keeps the Aggies out in front as June comes to a close.

The latest pledge only adds to the sense that Texas A&M has become the team everyone else is chasing. Each time another program lands a big name and tries to tighten the race, the Aggies have answered with a commitment of their own. This time, McFarland’s decision widened the gap again.

Around college football, the familiar comparison has already started to surface: “Remember the Jimbo era.” But not everyone inside the Aggie orbit is buying that line. Five-star linebacker and Texas A&M commit Kaden Henderson pushed back on the idea that this class is headed down the same path.

“I know a lot of people want to think, ‘Oh, this is like the Jimbo (Fisher) class.’ I think it’s completely different. I think this is a class that’s going to stick,”

There’s still a long way to go before anything is signed, and flip season has not even started. The Aggies have also built this momentum coming off a historic season, which makes the next stretch important. A disappointing fall could make the closing months tougher, especially with similar compensation packages in play.

For now, though, Texas A&M is sitting alone at the top of the 2027 race. The Aggies have met every challenge with another splash commitment, and right now they’re not just leading the cycle - they’re setting the pace for it.

Marcel Reed Just Got The Kind Of Backing Aggies Wanted To Hear

Marcel Reed has already given Texas A&M plenty to point to after a first season as the full-time starter, and the numbers are starting to line up with the kind of company Aggies fans know well. At 15-6, he has matched the start Johnny Manziel once put together through the same span, a benchmark that carries real weight in College Station and helps explain why there is so much optimism around what Reed can become next.

That optimism got another boost after Todd McShay came away impressed by what he saw from Reed at the Manning Passing Academy. McShay noted improvement in Reeds accuracy, confidence and physical development, which matters because the next phase for the quarterback comes with a full offseason to build on that progress rather than just manage it in-season. For A&M, that is the kind of sign that can turn a good starter into a much more dangerous one. [Read more 🡒]

Texas A&M May Be Closing In On A Massive Secondary Piece

Texas A&M has already added a pair of future playmakers to its 2027 class with commitments from wide receivers Damani Warren and Eric McFarland, but the bigger secondary prize still sits in front of the staff. Five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson has become the focal point, and his combination of speed and athleticism has made him one of the most watched defensive recruits in the cycle as the Aggies continue pushing to strengthen the back end of their future roster.

Dobsons decision is coming soon, with Texas A&M among the schools he has taken a close look at during the process. He has also visited Michigan and South Carolina, giving the race a national feel, but the Aggies are still very much in the mix for a prospect who could reshape the outlook of their cornerback group if he lands in College Station.
