Texas A&M’s 2027 class has been rolling along at the top of the national rankings, but the Aggies still have one major piece they want to add: a running back.
That search has centered on Landen Williams-Callis, the five-star back who remains one of the biggest names left on the board and is scheduled to announce his decision on Saturday, August 1. For Mike Elko and his staff, this one has been anything but straightforward.
At one point, Texas A&M looked like the clear team to beat. Then the race changed fast. The Aggies’ grip loosened, and Texas surged ahead to become the apparent leader in the chase for Williams-Callis.
Even so, Texas A&M has kept pushing. Elko and his staff have leaned on the relationships they built early with Williams-Callis, and that connection has helped keep the Aggies in the mix as decision day arrives.
Sources have told the Texas A&M Aggies On SI that Texas is still the favorite heading into the announcement. But there is still confidence inside the Aggies’ program, and they would not be stunned if Williams-Callis ends up choosing Texas A&M.
If the Aggies miss out, they still have work to do at running back for the cycle, since they have not landed a commit at the position yet. One name that could come back into play is Noah Roberts, an early Texas A&M target who eventually committed to Texas. If Williams-Callis goes elsewhere, Roberts could be looking around again, and that could open the door for the Aggies to circle back.
