Texas A&M may not have to wait long to see what Brandon Arrington can do.
With the 2026 college football season only a little more than a month away, Mike Elko’s roster in College Station is already loaded with newcomers and veteran pieces, and the Aggies are clearly aiming at a return to the College Football Playoff. That mix of depth and talent usually makes it hard for a freshman to break through. Arrington, though, has put himself right in the conversation.
The five-star cornerback from Mount Miguel High School in San Diego arrives as the top defensive back in the country and the top player in California, which gives Texas A&M a major addition on the back end. Even with experienced names like Dezz Ricks and Rickey Gibson III from Tennessee competing for snaps, Arrington has already made a strong early push for a Week 1 role in the secondary.
His spring game performance in Maroon and White helped that case, and so did the way he has spoken about Elko. Arrington made it clear last December how much he respected what the coach has done.
"You can see how he has changed the culture," Arrington said in an interview with Rivals back in December of last year.
Speed is part of what makes him such an intriguing candidate to play right away. Arrington’s track background has long been one of his calling cards, and he owns the San Diego record in the 100-meter dash with a 10.21.
That kind of burst translates quickly on the football field, and Arrington has already started turning it into the kind of coverage ability that can stick a receiver and erase a play. With Will Lee III now in the NFL, the path is there for Arrington to be mentioned among Texas A&M’s starting cornerbacks when 2026 opens.
