In the WTA 125 Dow Tennis Classic in Midland, No. 2 seed Dasha Vidmanova from Georgia, representing the Czech Republic, dispatched UNC freshman Anna Frey 6-2, 6-2 to reach the semifinals. Her college rival, Mary Stoiana from Texas A&M, seeded eighth, defeated Canada's Katherine Sebov 6-3, 6-4. A potential showdown looms if both secure victories on Saturday.
The ATP 250 in Delray Beach featured a thrilling encounter as No. 4 seed Learner Tien avenged his 2023 US Open first-round loss to No. 8 seed Frances Tiafoe, winning 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-5. Tien's resilience was on full display as he navigated a rollercoaster match, breaking Tiafoe when it mattered most.
