Vols-Tide? Rece Davis Makes College GameDay Prediction

BYU fans could see the return of ESPN's College GameDay for a blockbuster showdown against Notre Dame, provided both teams maintain their unbeaten records leading up to the anticipated clash.

No. 10 BYU is putting itself in position for a massive October spotlight, and College GameDay could be headed to Provo if the Cougars and Notre Dame keep winning.

On the College GameDay podcast, Rece Davis said “there's a really good chance” the show will be on hand for the BYU-Notre Dame matchup, as long as both teams arrive unbeaten. Davis made clear he wasn’t breaking news, but he pointed to the weekend slate and said the Cougars and Fighting Irish could be the most compelling game on the board.

“I don't know where else you would have gone the first four weeks if you really looked at the storylines, and then we're at Iowa this week,” Davis said. “And, you know, who knows? I'm not trying to give away secrets because no decision has been made, but I think there's a really good chance we'll be at BYU.”

He added that the idea is still very much a possibility, not a decision.

“I'm not trying to give anything away. That may not happen...

I'm gonna get in trouble with PR and probably with management for even bringing that up. We haven't come close to making a decision on that yet.

I'm just looking at the schedule...it might be the best game of the weekend, you know, and both might still be undefeated...it certainly would be a contender.”

For BYU, the path starts with business at home before Notre Dame ever becomes the focus. The Cougars have TCU and Iowa State coming up, and while they’ll be favored in both, FPI gives them just a 59.6% chance to win both games. Notre Dame, meanwhile, has a 90% chance to beat North Carolina and Stanford and enter the BYU game unbeaten.

The last time GameDay showed up in Provo was in 2008, when BYU hosted TCU. The Horned Frogs left with a convincing win, and that remains the only time the show has been in Provo.

BYU has had more recent success with FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, hosting the show twice over the last two years for games against Arizona in 2024 and Utah in 2025. The Cougars won both of those games.

If BYU and Notre Dame both keep their streaks alive, the October 17 showdown could become one of the biggest games ever played at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Tennessee May Be Missing A Key Starter In Two Crucial Roles

Qua Moss could wind up being one of the more important names on Tennessees availability report heading into Auburn. The defensive back and punt returner is listed as questionable after entering concussion protocol, and he was injured late in the loss to Texas before exiting and not returning. For a Volunteers team that has leaned on Moss in two different phases, his status carries more weight than a typical depth-chart question.

Moss has been a key presence at nickelback and on punt returns this season, giving Tennessee value on defense and on special teams. If he cant go, the Vols will have to adjust in more than one spot, and that kind of late-week uncertainty is never ideal with a trip to Auburn on deck. [Read more 🡒]

Tennessee May Need Its Ground Game More Than Ever Against Auburn

A wet Saturday could shape up to be the kind of game Tennessee would rather control on the ground anyway. The 17th-ranked Volunteers are set to host Auburn at Neyland Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET, and multiple weather sources are pointing to a significant chance of rain and thunderstorms that could make the passing game tougher to trust.

If the forecast holds, Tennessees rushing attack may become the cleanest path to staying on schedule and staying ahead of Auburns defense. The Tigers also have reasons to lean into the run, with senior Jeremiah Cobb and quarterback Byrum Brown driving their ground game, so this one could come down to which team handles the conditions and the trenches better. Auburn Suddenly Has A Real Opening To Flip Its SEC Outlook

With Saturdays trip to Neyland Stadium approaching, the Tennessee-Auburn matchup has started to look a little different because of what happened to the Volunteers up front. College football analyst Josh Pate pointed to the season-ending injury to starting guard Wendell Moe as a real concern for Tennessee, especially after the way its quarterback was pressured in the last game.

Auburn still has plenty to sort out of its own, and Pate said the Tigers need better production on the ground and cleaner quarterback play if they want to make this a true SEC swing game. But with Tennessee dealing with a key injury on the interior line, Auburn can at least see a path to making Saturday more uncomfortable than it looked a week ago. [Read more 🡒]
