Tennessee football is gearing up for an exciting weekend as they prepare to host one of the nation's top quarterback prospects for the 2028 class. Trace Hawkins, a four-star quarterback from Calhoun High School in Georgia, is set to visit Knoxville this Saturday. Ranked as the No. 87 overall recruit and the sixth-best quarterback in his class, Hawkins is making waves with his impressive skills and potential.
Hawkins has been busy on the recruiting trail, with announced visits to powerhouses like Clemson, Florida State, Florida, and Duke. He’s also received offers from programs such as SMU, Indiana, Auburn, and Georgia Tech, showcasing his growing appeal across the college football landscape. Interestingly, this won’t be Hawkins’ first time in Knoxville; he previously visited Tennessee back in June 2025.
As it stands, the Volunteers have yet to secure a commitment for their 2028 class, but there's plenty of time left in the recruiting cycle. Meanwhile, Tennessee is off to a promising start with their 2027 class, having already secured commitments from four talented players. Leading the charge is four-star offensive lineman Princeton Uwaifo, alongside four-star Kadin Fife, who is currently re-evaluating his options due to recent defensive staff changes.
The Vols also have commitments from three-star quarterback Derrick Baker and legacy linebacker JP Peace. With the offseason in full swing, Tennessee fans can expect more commitments to roll in as the recruiting class continues to develop.
Coach Josh Heupel has been on a roll with quarterback recruits, adding Derrick Baker to a lineup that includes five-star talents like Faizon Brandon and Nico Iamaleava, as well as four-stars George MacIntyre and Jake Merklinger. This follows Tennessee’s impressive 2026 recruiting cycle, where they secured the No. 4 class nationally and No. 2 in the SEC. That class featured Brandon, who is now in contention for the starting quarterback position this season.
With such a strong foundation and promising prospects like Hawkins on the horizon, Tennessee football is poised for an exciting future.
