Neyland Stadium gets its first giant spotlight of the season Saturday, and Kalshi traders are treating Tennessee’s trip to the playoff conversation as very much alive even as Texas rolls into Knoxville at No. 1.
The Volunteers and Longhorns both come in at 3-0, but the vibes around each team are different. Texas got the headline win, taking down then-No.
1 Ohio State earlier this month. Since then, though, Arch Manning and the offense have looked more workmanlike than explosive.
Texas is 78th nationally in yards per play at 5.3, and last week’s win over UTSA didn’t do much to change that story after the Longhorns struggled to create big plays through the air.
Tennessee, meanwhile, has been putting points on the board in bunches. Josh Heupel’s team is 18th nationally in yards per play at 6.6, and the Vols have scored at least 42 points in every game so far this season. That kind of production is showing up in the prediction markets, where real-money contracts on Kalshi - code ROCKY - are giving a read on Tennessee’s SEC title hopes, playoff odds and Saturday’s showdown.
In the SEC championship market, Tennessee is still a long shot. The Vols sit at just 3% to win the league, behind Georgia at 30% and Texas at 28%.
Alabama is next at 10%, followed by Florida and Ole Miss at 7% apiece and LSU at 6%. That 3% number says more about the road ahead than it does about Tennessee’s ceiling.
Beat Texas at home, and that price could move fast.
The playoff market paints a more forgiving picture. Tennessee is at 34% to make the College Football Playoff, up 6 percentage points from a week ago.
That puts the Vols in a crowded middle tier with Florida at 34%, Oregon at 36% and Penn State at 37%. Texas sits much more comfortably at 74%.
If Tennessee hands the Longhorns their first loss, the Vols would likely surge into the 50% to 60% range while trimming Texas’ cushion.
For Saturday itself, traders still lean Texas. The Longhorns are priced at 64% to win in Knoxville, while Tennessee is at 36%.
That lines up with traditional sportsbooks, which have Texas around a 5.5-point favorite. Still, the numbers on the field hint at a matchup that could get uncomfortable for the visitors if Tennessee dictates tempo.
Manning has completed 61.9% of his passes for 664 yards through three games, and if the Vols get their run game going and start forcing third-and-long, the home crowd at Neyland could make that 36% look awfully tempting.
