Tennessee’s updated 2026 roster gives a clearer picture of where the quarterback room stands heading into fall camp, and the numbers next to Faizon Brandon jump off the page.
The five-star true freshman is now listed at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. As a recruit, 247 had him at 6-foot-3.5 and 200 pounds, so the added size is obvious. For comparison, second-year linebacker Jadon Perlotte is listed at 6-foot-4 and 214 pounds.
Brandon’s physical profile was never the main question. The bigger issue was whether a first-year quarterback could come in and take control of the offense. So far, that part appears to be moving in the right direction.
He said in the spring that he was comfortable with the playbook and that the game was starting to slow down for him.
“I would say learning the offense hasn’t been hard with the tools they gave us,” Brandon said. “You can study on your own, have our own iPad and stuff to look over everything.
So I would say with that it makes it easy. So if you just do your part, studying by yourself and stuff, then it makes it easier to learn the offense.”
Brandon is part of a quarterback battle that also includes redshirt-freshman George MacIntyre and Colorado transfer Ryan Staub. MacIntyre is listed at 6-foot-6 and 208 pounds, which puts him just short of the 210-pound target he was given for the start of fall camp. That’s a 13-pound jump from his playing weight as a true freshman and 26 pounds more than when he first arrived on campus.
With fall camp less than a month away, Josh Heupel has a decision to make, and the opening stretch of camp will go a long way in sorting out the competition.
