Tennessee’s Saturday showcase gave Derrick Baker another chance to feel at home in Knoxville.
The Volunteers quarterback commit, a 2027 prospect from Alpharetta, Georgia, spent the Tennessee-Texas game on campus and came away impressed by the same things that keep pulling him back: the energy, the people, and the way the program feels around a big game.
“The atmosphere was great. Every time I’m back at Tennessee it just feels more and more comfortable for me.
Being around the coaches, the players, the recruits and everybody associated with the program is always a good time. There’s a different energy when you’re up there, especially on a game weekend," Baker said.
For Baker, one of the biggest parts of the trip had nothing to do with the scoreboard. It was the chance to spend time with teammates from Milton, along with other recruits who could one day be part of the same class.
"Definitely. That was probably one of my favorite parts of the visit.
These are guys I’m going to be going to work with every day, so any opportunity we get to spend time together and keep building that bond is important. My message is really just that we have an opportunity to build something special together.
Everybody has their own recruitment and has to make the decision that’s best for them, but for the guys who are locked in with Tennessee, I want us to keep getting closer and building that chemistry now instead of waiting until we get on campus," Baker said.
He also made time to talk with several prospects and teammates while on the visit, including David Jacobs, Dawson Jacobs, Keelen Wonsley and Deuntrey Allen. Baker said his pitch to them centered on what Tennessee offers and how the staff prepares players for the next level.
"I did talk to some guys like David Jacobs and his brother Dawson. Also, some of my own teammates like Keelen Wonsley and Deuntrey Allen. My message to them is just what I love about the school, the coaches, and how they develop their players for that next level of football," Baker said.
Baker connected with coaches he expects to know well down the road, including Coach Landry Jones and Coach Jared Peery. The conversations were warm and productive, according to the quarterback.
"The coaches I spoke to the most were Coach Jones and Coach Peery. They were thrilled to see me and to get a chance to discuss some of the stuff they've been working on," Baker said.
He doesn’t have a date set for another trip yet, but he’s already thinking about getting back.
"I do not know when I’ll be visiting again, but I’m looking forward to getting back there as soon as possible," Baker said.
Baker also spoke about reconnecting with Jarrett Guarantano, the former Tennessee quarterback he trains with now. That relationship, he said, continues to reinforce what Tennessee has to offer.
"It was great to reconnect with him! He is my QB trainer right now, so we get to talk a lot, but his message was just that it’s a great place to be from the time he was there to now," Baker said.

Josh Dobbs Had Another Sideline Moment Tennessee Fans Will Appreciate
Joshua Dobbs has spent his 10th NFL season doing the sort of little things that tend to endear him to any locker room, and Tennessee fans know the routine by now. The former Volunteers quarterback, now in his first year of a second stint with the Lions, has not appeared in a regular-season game yet, but he did draw attention during a viral sideline moment when he handled a coachs headset by simply moving the microphone to the other side instead of replacing it.
It was a small gesture, but the kind that fits the broader story of Dobbs, who has long been valued for his presence as much as his arm. He turned in a strong preseason for Detroit and remains a veteran backup at age 31, but moments like this are why he still seems to resonate in Knoxville, where efficiency, awareness and a team-first approach have always played well. Tennessee Fans May Want To Notice This Famous-Name QB
The attention around quarterback recruiting in Tennessee already comes with plenty of noise, but Bo Bryan gave people plenty to notice Friday night. The Battle Ground Academy starter and son of country music star Luke Bryan put together a huge showing against Franklin Road Academy, completing 24 of 33 passes for 404 yards and six touchdowns in a win that should only add to his growing profile.
Bryan is already carrying multiple college offers and is ranked as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2027, so performances like this can only help him keep climbing the radar. Luke Bryan was on hand and expressed pride in his son's effort, a reminder that this is becoming one of those names Tennessee fans may want to keep in the back of their minds as the recruiting picture continues to take shape. New Lady Vol Rylie Theuerkauf Already Sounds Built For Tennessee
Official practice for the 2026-27 season has only just begun, but Rylie Theuerkauf is already speaking like a player who knows exactly why she came to Tennessee. The senior guard arrived after stops at Wake Forest and Georgia, and her move brought her back alongside assistant coach Isoken Uzamere and teammate Zhen Craft, two familiar connections in a new setting. There is always an adjustment period with a transfer, especially one who has already lived in more than one program, but Theuerkauf sounded comfortable describing the transition and the work that went into getting settled with the Lady Vols.
What stands out most is how quickly she has bought into the bigger picture around Kim Caldwells team. Theuerkauf talked about chemistry, the gains made over the summer, and the trust she has in Caldwell as Tennessee starts to put its pieces together. For a program that expects newcomers to fit into a demanding standard fast, that matters, and it suggests Theuerkauf may be more than just another veteran guard in the rotation. She already sounds like someone who understands the assignment, even if the real proof will come once the games begin. [Read more 🡒]
