Chas Nimrod Re-Enters Transfer Portal After One-Year Stint at USF
Chas Nimrod is on the move again.
The former Tennessee wide receiver has re-entered the transfer portal after spending just one season at South Florida, where he reunited with his former offensive coordinator, Alex Golesh. But with Golesh now headed to Auburn as the Tigers’ new head coach, Nimrod is once again in search of a new home for his final year of eligibility.
Nimrod’s time at USF showed flashes of what he can bring to an offense. In six games before an injury cut his season short, he caught 23 passes for 466 yards and three touchdowns.
That’s nearly 20 yards per catch-proof of the vertical threat he can be when healthy. His impact was immediate, helping the Bulls to a 5-1 start that included a big road win at Florida and a tough loss at Miami.
Without him, the Bulls still managed to finish 9-3 before falling to Old Dominion in their bowl game.
The 6-foot-3 receiver from Bentonville, Arkansas, has long been known for his versatility. At Tennessee, he carved out a role as a plug-and-play option who could line up both outside and in the slot-an invaluable asset during the Vols’ injury-riddled 2024 campaign.
That season, Tennessee made a run to the College Football Playoff, and Nimrod’s ability to step in at multiple spots helped stabilize the offense during the regular season. He finished the year with 10 catches for 121 yards but opted to enter the portal before the Vols’ CFP semifinal matchup against Ohio State.
That decision opened the door for freshman Braylon Staley to take over slot duties in the playoff.
Nimrod’s time in Knoxville also included a redshirt year in 2022 and limited action in 2023, when he caught his lone touchdown as a Vol. While his college career has been defined by flashes rather than full-season production, there’s no question he’s got the tools to contribute at the Power Five level-especially if he can stay healthy.
Now, with one final season left, Nimrod is back on the market. A reunion with Golesh at Auburn might seem like the obvious move, but nothing’s locked in yet. Given his experience, positional flexibility, and proven ability to stretch the field, he’s likely to draw interest from multiple programs looking to bolster their receiving corps.
Wherever he lands, Nimrod’s next stop will be his last shot to put together a complete season-and potentially make a real impact.
