Tennessee Targets Top In-State Cornerback for 2028 Football Class Visit

Top-ranked cornerback Jermaine Cobbins eyes Tennessee in his recruitment journey, marking a significant visit amidst interest from powerhouse programs.

Tennessee is making strategic moves toward bolstering its 2028 football signing class, and they’ve got their eyes on a promising talent. Four-star cornerback Jermaine Cobbins, a standout from Springfield High School in Tennessee, is set to visit the Volunteers this Thursday. Cobbins, who stands at an impressive 6-foot-1 and weighs 175 pounds, is ranked as the No. 2 cornerback in the nation and the top player in Tennessee, according to 247Sports.

This visit is part of a busy schedule for Cobbins, who plans to check out several other powerhouse programs, including Georgia, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Florida State, and Ohio State, among others. Tennessee initially extended a scholarship offer to Cobbins back on October 14, 2024. He’s no stranger to the Vols, having previously visited for their game against Kentucky in 2024 and a spring practice in March 2025.

Kentucky was the first to recognize Cobbins' potential, offering him a scholarship just two days before Tennessee. Since then, a slew of schools have joined the race, with offers from notable programs like Texas A&M, Oregon, and California, as well as others across the country.

As of now, Tennessee hasn’t secured any commitments for their 2028 class. However, they’re already building a solid foundation with four commitments for 2027, including linebacker JP Peace and quarterback Derrick Baker. The addition of Cobbins would undoubtedly be a significant boost to their future prospects.
