Tennessee Targets Four-Star Point Guard in Bold 2027 Recruiting Move

Tennessee takes a key step toward building its 2027 recruiting class with an offer to one of New Jerseys top young playmakers.

Tennessee is already laying the groundwork for its 2027 basketball recruiting class, and the Vols have their eyes on one of the top young point guards in the country. This week, they extended a scholarship offer to four-star prospect Micah Gordon - a name that’s quickly gaining traction in recruiting circles.

Gordon, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound floor general out of Plainfield High School in New Jersey, announced the offer via social media, calling it a blessing. And for good reason - this is a major step forward in his already impressive recruitment.

Ranked as the No. 11 point guard nationally in the 2027 class and the top overall player in New Jersey by 247Sports, Gordon has been steadily building an offer list that reflects his rising stock. He picked up his first offer from Binghamton back in January 2025, and since then, the list has grown to include programs like La Salle, High Point, VCU, Mississippi State, South Florida, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Seton Hall, Hampton, Quinnipiac, Rider, Arizona State, and Marquette.

Now, Tennessee joins the mix - a significant development considering the Vols’ stature in the SEC and their history of developing backcourt talent under head coach Rick Barnes. While it’s still early in the 2027 cycle and Tennessee doesn’t yet have a commitment in that class, this offer signals the type of player Barnes is targeting to lead his future backcourt.

In the meantime, Tennessee’s 2026 class is already shaping up nicely with three verbal commitments: small forward Ralph Scott, power forward Manny Green, and point guard Marquis Clark. That trio gives the Vols a solid foundation heading into the next wave of recruiting - and adding someone like Gordon down the line would only elevate the long-term outlook.

It’s still early days in the 2027 cycle, but Gordon’s skillset and growing list of suitors make him a name to watch. Tennessee’s offer puts them in the conversation - now it’s a matter of seeing how that relationship develops as the recruiting trail heats up.
