Tennessee Makes Top Six for Four-Star Receiver in 2027 Recruiting Battle

Tennessees 2027 recruiting efforts gain momentum as a top Georgia wideout narrows his choices.

Tennessee continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail for its 2027 class, and one of the latest names to keep an eye on is four-star wide receiver Jaden Upshaw.

Upshaw, a 6-foot-1, 196-pound standout from Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia, has trimmed his list to six programs-and the Vols made the cut. Joining Tennessee in his top six are USC, Miami, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Auburn, a group that speaks volumes about the level of talent Upshaw brings to the table.

Ranked as the No. 12 wide receiver nationally and the No. 10 overall prospect in the talent-rich state of Georgia by 247Sports, Upshaw is the kind of dynamic playmaker who can change the complexion of an offense. He’s a smooth route-runner with strong hands, and he’s shown the ability to create separation against top-tier competition-traits that have drawn attention from some of the biggest programs in the country.

Tennessee extended an offer to Upshaw on February 6, 2025, and the relationship has only grown since. He’s already made two unofficial visits to Knoxville-one for the 2025 Orange & White spring game, and another for the Vols’ marquee matchup against Oklahoma on November 1, 2025. Those visits gave Upshaw a firsthand look at the program’s culture, offensive system, and the kind of atmosphere Neyland Stadium delivers on game day.

UCF was the first to offer Upshaw back in March 2024, but his recruitment has exploded since then. His offer list reads like a who’s who of college football powers, including Georgia, Florida State, Michigan, Texas, and Alabama, among many others. That kind of attention doesn’t come without serious upside, and it’s clear Upshaw is one of the most sought-after receivers in the 2027 cycle.

As it stands, Tennessee has four early commitments in its 2027 class: linebacker JP Peace, cornerback Kamauri Whitfield, offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo, and defensive lineman Kadin Fife. Adding a high-end skill position talent like Upshaw would be a significant boost to that group-not just from a talent standpoint, but also in terms of momentum and perception on the recruiting trail.

With plenty of time left in the cycle, there’s still a long road ahead in Upshaw’s recruitment. But Tennessee has done the work to stay in the mix, and if the Vols can continue to build that relationship, they’ll have a real shot at landing one of the top receivers in the country.
