Tennessee basketball has locked in another important September recruiting weekend, this time with in-state forward Davis Cochran setting an official visit for Sept. 25-27.
Cochran confirmed the trip to RTI on Thursday after GoVols247’s Ben McKee first reported it. The timing makes the visit even more notable: Tennessee football is set to host Texas that same weekend in the Vols’ 2026 SEC opener.
Cochran won’t be the only target on campus. Five-star wing Malachi Jordan is also scheduled to officially visit Tennessee that weekend, giving the Vols a chance to make a strong impression on multiple 2027 prospects at once.
The 6-foot-9, 220-pound Cochran is listed as a three-star recruit and the No. 119 player in the 2027 cycle by the 247Sports composite. He also checks in as the No. 22 power forward nationally and the No. 2 overall prospect in Tennessee.
Even with that three-star label, Cochran’s stock appears to be rising. A trusted source told RTI that he was one of Tennessee’s top targets in the 2027 class after a strong summer on the EYBL circuit with Bradley Beal Elite.
At Brentwood High School, Cochran helped lead the Bruins to a 30-4 record and the program’s seventh state tournament appearance. Brentwood fell in its opener to eventual champion Bartlett.
Earlier this summer, Cochran narrowed his list to eight schools: Clemson, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia and Vanderbilt. He has already taken an official visit to Cincinnati and has September visits lined up with Clemson, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt as well.
Tennessee still does not have a commitment in its 2027 class. The Vols did host several 2027 prospects on unofficial visits last fall, including four-star shooting guard RJ Moore and four-star shooting guard Chase Lumpkin.
On the roster front, Tennessee has only two players for the upcoming season who are definitely out of eligibility, which means at least two scholarships should be available. That number could grow depending on NBA Draft decisions and any movement through the transfer portal.
