Tennessee has put Alvin Kamara’s name where it belongs inside Neyland Stadium.
On Thursday, the university unveiled the “Alvin Kamara Family Lobby” at Gate 19, a new tribute to the former Tennessee running back who became one of the program’s most memorable NFL products. The dedication recognizes what Kamara accomplished in Knoxville and what he has done with the New Orleans Saints, tying his college legacy to his pro success in one spot.
The move also follows what Danny White and Josh Heupel both described as a “generous gift” from Kamara to the university. The amount was not disclosed.
Kamara said the gesture was about more than recognition.
“With this gift, I hope it kind of sets a standard on what a student-athlete at the University of Tennessee can accomplish, with that Power T, being a VFL, that you have a responsibility to inspire and to, like I said, set a standard for those coming up under you,” Kamara said. “I don’t take it lightly, and I’m just looking forward to kind of making the impact and seeing what we can do. It’s all about evolution, so being able to help the university evolve in any way.”
Kamara has long been a familiar presence around Tennessee, with his image already featured on the back of the jumbotron. Now his name is attached even more prominently to Neyland Stadium, a fitting nod for a player who gave the Vols one of the most electric stretches at running back in recent memory.
