Tennessee Just Got More Doubt Ahead Of A Game Fans Fear Most

With predictions of an upset swirling, Tennessee supporters rally against former Georgia player David Pollack's bold call favoring South Carolina in this weekend's crucial showdown.

David Pollack is betting on South Carolina to be the team that trips up No. 11 Tennessee this weekend, and that call did not exactly land softly with Vols fans online.

The former Georgia star, now an SEC football analyst, laid out his reasoning during an X broadcast on Wednesday. Pollack pointed to the setting in Columbia, the style of game he expects, and South Carolina’s running game as the reasons he sees the Gamecocks pulling the upset.

“Where’s this game being played at? Williams-Brice Stadium,” Pollack said.

“Space Odyssey. The rooster will be crowing every time, and very annoyingly.

This feels like a recipe - This feels like a trench war, this feels like LaNorris Sellers - I told you before the season that South Carolina was going to get somebody. They gon get somebody.

This is who they’re going to get. This is going to be a great game, but I think it’s the run game of South Carolina, it’s the breaking tackles, making extra plays.”

Pollack doubled down after posting the video, writing, “South Carolina finishes strong and knocks off Tennessee this weekend.”

He then challenged people to push back: “Tell me why I’m wrong.”

The replies came fast, with more than 30 responses in just a few hours. Plenty of Tennessee fans weren’t buying the pick.

“ Will come down to coaching. TN wins.”

“You are wrong. We got Derek Owings for a reason.

This team is going to be mentally ready for this stage. Defense and Run game travels.

George will toss it for 176. Vols 27-24.”

“Wait who did you have winning the Bama game?”

“Our defense.”

“Lol the lack of respect after just beating the breaks off Alabama is absolutely mind blowing.”

“Same thing every week from you lol”

“I’ve seen literally everyone pick SCar. Vols shouldn’t even show up according to the media. They’re all saying the same thing.”

“Tennessee has the best D coordinator and strength coach in the game. USC Jr. hasn’t played a team as physical as Tennessee and it’ll show. Dylan Stewart will quit at halftime.”

Not every response was a direct disagreement, but Pollack’s post was clearly aimed at Vol fans, and most of the reaction reflected that.

The numbers also paint a split picture. ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Tennessee a 59.9% chance to win on Saturday, while DraftKings lists South Carolina as a 2.5-point favorite.

That’s part of why this matchup has been framed as a classic “trap game” for the Vols, with some fans bringing up memories of the 2022 meeting. The same language has been repeated all week, and Pollack’s pick only added fuel to that conversation.

There’s also a wrinkle in Pollack’s logic. He suggested South Carolina would land its signature win of the season here, but the Gamecocks already went into Gainesville and beat No.

16 Florida before their bye week. That result gave Florida its second loss and pushed the Gators toward playoff elimination.

South Carolina has already shown it can shock one SEC opponent, though it struggled against conference teams earlier in the season and played much better against Florida two weeks ago.

Now the question is whether it can do it again.

South Carolina (3-3) hosts No. 11 Tennessee (6-1) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET in Williams-Brice Stadium.

Tennessee Just Entered A Bigger Week 8 Conversation

A Tennessee team that has spent the fall trying to prove its place in the SEC spotlight has now been pulled into a broader Week 8 conversation, at least in the prediction game. Among a slate of upset calls circling college football, the Volunteers are the ones getting singled out for a potential edge over South Carolina, a matchup that would carry plenty of weight for a program still trying to stack consistency behind its stronger performances.

South Carolina has the kind of profile that can make these forecasts interesting, especially when recent results and individual play begin to tilt opinion one way or the other. For Tennessee, the appeal is obvious: a road to momentum, a chance to firm up its standing, and another test of whether the Volunteers can turn promising stretches into something more durable when the conference schedule tightens. Tennessees Defensive Turnaround Is Suddenly Paying Off With Elite Recruits

Tennessees defensive resurgence has started to show up in ways that reach beyond the scoreboard. After holding Alabama to 10 points and forcing four turnovers in a recent game, the Volunteers gave 2028 four-star cornerback Tyler Boyd plenty to notice during his visit, and the performance lined up with the kind of progress the new defensive staff under Jim Knowles has been working to build.

Boyd came away talking about those improvements, and his interest in Tennessee appears to have grown after seeing the unit in person. The Vols are keeping the pressure on the recruiting trail, too, with Derek Jones and Josh Heupel staying in regular contact as they try to keep Boyds attention moving forward. [Read more 🡒]

Tennessees Passing Game Has A Real Opening If The Vols Hold Up Front

South Carolina has given up plenty through the air in SEC play, and that creates a clear opening for Tennessee as it looks to get its passing game moving in the right direction. For the Vols, this is less about chasing a big number and more about taking what the defense has already shown on film, especially if the matchup lets Tennessee stay on schedule and avoid obvious passing downs.

The key, as always, starts up front. If Tennessee can hold up in pass protection, George MacIntyres reads should come easier, and the rest of the offense will have a chance to do its part as receivers and backs work into the right spots. The opportunity is there, but it only matters if the Vols can keep the pocket clean long enough to make South Carolina pay for what it has been giving up. [Read more 🡒]
