Tennessee Is Suddenly In Position For Its Next 5-Star Win

Tennessee is making significant strides to secure elite talent Nasir Anderson as they lead the recruitment race for the acclaimed five-star point guard.

Tennessee’s 2027 basketball class is still empty, but the Vols may not be waiting long to get on the board.

Rivals’ Joe Tipton reported that Tennessee and Virginia are the two programs leading the chase for five-star point guard Nasir Anderson. Anderson has already taken visits to Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia, UNC, and Providence, and Tipton also noted that UNC and Providence appear to be out of the picture, while Georgia is still involved.

Anderson’s rise has been fast and loud. He first grabbed attention as a sophomore when he helped Norcross (Georgia) knock off powerhouse McEachern in the second round of the 6A playoffs. That game drew extra scouting buzz because Anderson was matched up with Chase Lumpkin, one of the top 2027 point guards in the country and now committed to Alabama.

He kept building that profile on the international stage, earning a spot on the USA U16 team for the FIBA U16 AmeriCup. Anderson didn’t just show up - he set the U.S. record for assists, topping the mark previously held by now NBA point guard Rob Dillingham, and he took home the tournament’s MVP award against some of the best young talent in the world.

After that sophomore season, Anderson transferred to Prolific Prep, where he continued to thrive at the national powerhouse.

Rivals currently ranks Anderson as the 12th-best player in the country and the sixth-highest uncommitted prospect.

For Tennessee, the timing is notable. The last five-star the Vols landed was Nate Ament two years ago, and Ament’s run in Knoxville was a big one.

He helped Tennessee reach the Elite Eight while putting up 16.7 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, and 1.0 steals per game before being selected 13th overall in the 2026 NBA Draft. Through the first few games of his NBA career, he has looked solid in limited minutes for the Bucks.

DeSean Bishop Changes Tennessees Kentucky Outlook At The Perfect Time

DeSean Bishop looks set to give Tennessee a timely boost as the Volunteers come out of their bye week and turn their attention to Kentucky. Josh Heupel said Bishop is in good shape to be active after the late injury he picked up at South Carolina, a welcome update for a Tennessee offense that has leaned on him heavily as he closes in on 1,000 rushing yards this season.

For a back who has spent four years in Knoxville, the timing matters on more than one level. Tennessee gets one of its most dependable runners back for a key SEC matchup, while Bishop continues to build a strong final-season case that could shape what comes next, including the possibility of entering the NFL draft after the year. Alabama Just Landed In A Playoff Debate Fans Know Too Well

Paul Finebaums latest criticism of the College Football Playoff rankings has reopened a familiar argument for Tennessee fans, one that usually comes with plenty of frustration attached. Alabama sitting at No. 5 while Tennessee is down at No. 13, despite the Volunteers beating the Crimson Tide head-to-head, has put the committees process back under the microscope and turned an old SEC debate into a fresh national talking point.

The committee has said it weighs more than one result, including strength of schedule, and chair Hunter Yurachek has noted that direct comparisons matter most when teams are clustered closely together. Still, for Tennessee supporters, the gap between the two teams is hard to ignore, especially with both programs still carrying games ahead that could reshape the picture and either validate the current order or stir the argument up all over again. Tennessee's Kentucky Night Could Matter Big For Heupel Off The Field

Saturday night at Neyland Stadium is shaping up to be about more than just Tennessee and Kentucky. With more than 100,000 fans expected, the Vols will also have a sizable recruiting audience in the building, including three 2027 prospects who could come away with a strong impression of the program and the atmosphere that surrounds it.

Among the visitors are cornerback Preston Glasco, pass-rusher Hayden Lowe and defensive lineman Joshua Lane, all names Tennessee is tracking closely. Lowe has Tennessee in the mix as he works through a run of visits before an early-December decision, while Lane, a Memphis native, is also drawing heavy attention from Alabama. For Josh Heupel and his staff, a win over Kentucky would do more than help in the standings. It could give those recruits one more reason to picture themselves in orange. [Read more 🡒]
