Tennessee Got A Faizon Brandon Scare At The Worst Time

Faizon Brandon is expected to take the field against Auburn despite a mid-game injury scare in Tennessee's recent matchup against Texas.

Tennessee appears to have avoided the worst with Faizon Brandon.

The freshman quarterback is not listed on the Volunteers’ initial SEC Student Athlete Availability Report for Saturday’s game against Auburn, a strong sign that Tennessee expects him to be ready to go after the injury scare against Texas.

Brandon’s issue surfaced early in the second quarter of Tennessee’s 20-17 loss to the Longhorns. He seemed to hurt his throwing shoulder after taking a hit on a designed quarterback run. Tennessee’s medical staff checked him on the field, then he headed to the sideline and into the medical tent.

After spending time there, Brandon came back out, threw on the sideline, and eventually returned to the game. Backup George MacIntyre handled the offense in the meantime, but Brandon was cleared and finished the night.

Even with the scare, Brandon still put together a busy performance. He completed 17 of 29 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown, while also setting a career high with 23 rushing attempts. Texas’ defense kept the pressure on all game and finished with 10 sacks.

After the game, Josh Heupel said the medical staff had evaluated Brandon and cleared him to return.

“He was able to come back. Felt healthy and ready to play,” Heupel said.

Brandon did continue to absorb hits after he returned, and he also received more treatment once the game was over. Still, his absence from the initial availability report points to a positive outlook for Tennessee heading into its next SEC matchup.

That report matters because SEC teams are required to list players whose status for the next conference game is uncertain. Schools update those reports during the week before the final game-day version comes out 90 minutes before kickoff.

So while Brandon’s name being left off the report does not erase the possibility that he’s still dealing with some soreness, it does suggest Tennessee currently expects him to play.

Barring any change before kickoff, Brandon should be available when No. 17 Tennessee hosts Auburn on Saturday at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee Just Got A Left Side O-Line Problem It Can't Ignore

The opening drive against Texas left Tennessee with an immediate problem on the left side of its offensive line, and it is one the Volunteers are now expected to live with for the rest of the 2026 season. Starting left guard Wendell Moe Jr. is expected to miss the remainder of the year after sustaining an injury in that game, and head coach Josh Heupel has not offered any specifics on the injury itself.

In the meantime, Tennessee has already started to reshuffle up front, moving Sham Umarov to left guard and inserting Donovan Haslam at right guard. It is the kind of in-game adjustment that can solve one issue for a night, but for the Volunteers it also underscores how much strain one absence can put on the interior of the line as the season moves forward. Tennessee Just Lost A Proven Starter At The Worst Possible Time

Wendell Moe Jr. was supposed to be one of the steadying pieces of Tennessees season, the veteran guard who brought preseason All-American recognition and returned as an All-SEC pick. Instead, the Volunteers are bracing for life without him after he was injured against Texas, a blow that lands especially hard because of how much value he provided on an offensive line that already needed continuity and reliability.

The timing makes it even tougher for Tennessee, which now has to sort through its depth and identify the next linemen up for the coming stretch of games. Losing a proven starter in the middle of the season changes the look of the line immediately, and for a team with big ambitions, the absence of a player with Moe Jr.s experience is the kind of setback that can ripple well beyond one position group. Tennessees Auburn Game Will Look Very Different At Neyland

Tennessee is putting a distinct historical stamp on Saturdays home game against Auburn at Neyland Stadium, with the Vols unveiling the Neyland Legacy version of their Smokey Grey alternate uniforms. The look includes a vintage interlocking UT logo at midfield instead of the usual Power T, and the design leans heavily into a throwback feel tied to Gen. Robert Neyland and his impact on the program.

The uniform details carry that theme throughout, from the leather-style helmet look to the stencil number font and other references to Neylands legacy and contributions to the stadium. For a matchup set for Saturday and televised on ESPN, it gives Tennessees crowd another layer of pageantry, and it adds a different visual identity to what is already one of the louder settings in the SEC.
