Tennessee Football Linked to Top Safety Recruit with Intriguing Current Ties

Tennessee football strengthens its recruiting momentum, aiming to secure top 2027 safety prospect Kaleb Elkins, who has vital connections to the Vols.

Tennessee football is making waves in the recruitment arena, setting its sights on one of the top safety prospects for the 2027 class. Kaleb Elkins, a standout from Indianapolis, has narrowed his choices to six schools: Tennessee, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Ohio State, Missouri, and Oregon. This update comes from Rivals, highlighting the Vols' strong position in this recruiting battle.

Elkins is a four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 273 prospect nationally and the No. 25 safety in his class, according to the 247 Composite rankings. Standing at an impressive 6-foot-3 and weighing 185 pounds, Elkins is gearing up for his senior season at Warren Central High School. Interestingly, this is the same school that produced Tennessee freshman JJ Finch, who made headlines by flipping his commitment from Alabama to Tennessee late in the cycle.

The Vols' recruitment efforts for Elkins will be led by their new defensive team. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and co-defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter are taking the reins from former coordinator Tim Banks, aiming to secure Elkins' commitment.

Tennessee's 2027 recruiting cycle is off to a promising start, with four commitments already in place. The class is headlined by four-star offensive lineman Princeton Uwaifo and includes four-star Kadin Fife, though Fife is reevaluating his options following the defensive staff changes.

The Vols have also secured commitments from three-star quarterback Derrick Baker and legacy linebacker JP Peace. With the offseason underway, Tennessee fans can expect more commitments as the recruiting class continues to take shape.

This momentum follows a successful 2026 cycle, where Tennessee landed the No. 4 recruiting class nationally and No. 2 in the SEC, according to 247. The Vols are clearly building a strong foundation for the future, and landing Elkins would be another significant step forward.
