Tennessee Football Linked to Elite 2027 Athlete with Unexpected Recruiting History

Tennessee makes a strong push for elite two-way talent Bode Sparrow as the Vols crack the top 10 for the top-ranked recruit out of Utah.

Tennessee is once again dipping into Utah’s talent pool, this time targeting one of the most dynamic two-way prospects in the 2027 recruiting class: Bode Sparrow. The Vols are among the ten programs still in the running for the elite athlete out of Kaysville, Utah, who announced his top schools on Wednesday.

Sparrow, who stars at Davis High School, is ranked as the No. 67 overall player in the 2027 class according to the 247Sports Composite. He also holds the distinction of being the No. 3 athlete in the country and the top-ranked prospect in Utah. At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, Sparrow brings a rare blend of size, speed, and versatility that has made him a high-priority target for programs across the country.

Joining Tennessee in Sparrow’s top 10 are Utah, BYU, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Arizona State, and Michigan. It’s a loaded list filled with national powers and regional contenders, but Tennessee’s early involvement could be key.

The Vols offered Sparrow back on April 30, 2025, with wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Kelsey Pope extending the offer. That detail might offer a clue as to how Tennessee envisions Sparrow fitting into their system - potentially as a wide receiver. But make no mistake: this is a true two-way talent.

Greg Biggins, a national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, had high praise for Sparrow’s all-around game. “On the short list when talking about top two-way players out West,” Biggins wrote.

“He has the talent and skill set to play safety or wide receiver in college and is a high major prospect on both sides of the ball. Upside probably highest at safety and shows instincts, ball skills and physicality.

Always around the football, rangy and a threat to take it back to the house if he gets his hands on it.”

That kind of versatility is what makes Sparrow such a coveted name in this class. He’s the type of athlete who can change the momentum of a game on either side of the ball - a ball-hawking safety with elite range and tackling ability, or a dynamic receiver who can stretch the field and make plays in space.

For Tennessee, landing a player like Sparrow would be a statement - not just about their ability to recruit nationally, but about their intent to build a 2027 class with serious star power. The Vols already have four commitments in the fold: four-star offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo, four-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife, three-star linebacker JP Peace, and three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield. It’s a solid foundation, but there’s plenty of runway left in this cycle, and Sparrow would be a crown jewel addition.

As the recruiting process heats up, expect Tennessee to stay aggressive in their pursuit. With Pope leading the charge and the Vols showing a clear vision for how Sparrow could fit into their scheme, they’ve positioned themselves well - but they’ll have to fend off some heavy hitters to seal the deal.

For now, Sparrow remains one of the most intriguing names to watch in the 2027 class - a true game-changer with offers to match.
