Tennessee’s new Adidas jerseys are almost here, and for fans thinking about dropping more than $100 on one, there’s at least one encouraging sign.
The Vols are set to finish their week of uniform reveals on Thursday, with the merchandise release coming online and in stores Friday. The new orange and white jerseys have already drawn a strong response on social media, and the Dark Modes still haven’t been shown. That alone has plenty of Tennessee fans watching closely.
The bigger question, though, is whether the jerseys are actually worth the price. On that front, a recent review from Barstool Sports personality Connor Griffin offered some good news for anyone eyeing the new Tennessee gear.
Griffin unboxed and tried on his new Adidas Penn State jersey this week, and his takeaway was pretty clear. Penn State also switched from Nike to Adidas this month, putting that fanbase in the same position Tennessee is in now.
“Yeah, that’s nice,” Griffin said while unboxing and trying on the jersey. “It’s overall much lighter, feels more breathable.
Fits pretty much the same, except I’d say maybe the sleeves are a little bit shorter than the Nike jersey. But I love this so far.
The biggest thing that jumps off the page immediately is the fact that we’re going back to stitched jersey numbers. These are not ironed on, like pretty much everything with Nike was.
We’re going back to the good old days. The Adidas logo is not ironed on.
The Big Ten logo is not ironed on.”
His comparison leaned heavily in Adidas’ favor. Griffin said the jersey’s fabric and design felt better than the Nike version from last season, and the stitched numbers stood out immediately after years of iron-on details.
He also acknowledged the price tag, saying the new jersey cost him $130.
“Now, guys, you might have to pay a little bit more for these jerseys,” Griffin said. “I got this for $130, which is definitely more expensive than what Nike was selling their jerseys for.
And you’ll always have people who say Adidas is way less cooler than the swoosh, why would Penn State ever go away from Nike? Blah blah blah.
All I know is this is a massive upgrade in quality compared to the Nike jerseys.”
Tennessee’s exact Adidas jerseys haven’t been seen yet, so there’s still some mystery around how they’ll look and feel in hand. But based on what Penn State fans are getting, the Vols’ new rollout appears likely to come with the kind of quality upgrade buyers want when they’re spending that kind of money.
For Tennessee fans waiting to shop the new look, that’s a promising sign heading into the weekend.
