Tennessee Faces Early Georgia Fight For A Recruit Who Could Matter Big

Tennessee is in a fierce recruiting contest with Georgia for IMG Academy's promising four-star offensive tackle, Nation Farmer, as both schools vie for his commitment.

Tennessee is in the middle of a real recruiting tug-of-war for one of the top offensive tackles in the 2028 class.

According to Rivals’ Chad Simmons, the Vols are in a “tight battle” with SEC border rival Georgia for IMG Academy tackle Nation Farmer. Simmons reported Tuesday that Farmer will be in Knoxville this weekend for Tennessee’s “Neyland at Night” game against Kentucky, then head to Athens for Georgia’s Nov. 28 home matchup with Georgia Tech.

Farmer, listed at 6-foot-4.5 and 286 pounds, carries plenty of national attention already. Rivals’ Industry Rankings slot him at No. 92 overall in the 2028 class, No. 9 among offensive tackles, and No. 8 in Florida.

ESPN has him even higher at No. 72 overall, while Rivals has him at No. 144.

There’s also some momentum on Tennessee’s side in the prediction market. Kolby Crawford of Noles247 recently logged a Crystal Ball pick for the Vols to land Farmer. Crawford is 53-for-53 in his career predictions, though this one came with a “medium” confidence tag.

Farmer’s path to IMG included time at Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia, where he played as a freshman and sophomore before moving on to the national powerhouse.

He’s also been busy on the visit trail this fall. Farmer took unofficial visits to Florida State on Sept.

7, Georgia on Sept. 12, Florida on Sept. 26, and Auburn on Oct. 24, according to 247Sports’ Timeline.

He had already been to Tennessee earlier this year for the Big Orange BBQ event and a school camp in late May.

Tennessee’s 2028 class is still in its early stages, with just one commitment so far, but that pledge is an important one for the Vols. UT landed four-star quarterback Kaden Craft, the No. 120 player in the class, in August. And while the 2028 board is still taking shape, Tennessee already has three offensive tackle commitments in the 2027 class: Niko Kampas, Princeton Uwaifo and Q’Mari Hudson.

Farmer released a Top 10 on Sept. 18 that included Auburn, Virginia Tech, Kansas State, NC State, Oregon, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Ohio State.

DeSean Bishop Changes Tennessees Kentucky Outlook At The Perfect Time

DeSean Bishop looks set to give Tennessee a timely boost as the Volunteers come out of their bye week and turn their attention to Kentucky. Josh Heupel said Bishop is in good shape to be active after the late injury he picked up at South Carolina, a welcome update for a Tennessee offense that has leaned on him heavily as he closes in on 1,000 rushing yards this season.

For a back who has spent four years in Knoxville, the timing matters on more than one level. Tennessee gets one of its most dependable runners back for a key SEC matchup, while Bishop continues to build a strong final-season case that could shape what comes next, including the possibility of entering the NFL draft after the year. Alabama Just Landed In A Playoff Debate Fans Know Too Well

Paul Finebaums latest criticism of the College Football Playoff rankings has reopened a familiar argument for Tennessee fans, one that usually comes with plenty of frustration attached. Alabama sitting at No. 5 while Tennessee is down at No. 13, despite the Volunteers beating the Crimson Tide head-to-head, has put the committees process back under the microscope and turned an old SEC debate into a fresh national talking point.

The committee has said it weighs more than one result, including strength of schedule, and chair Hunter Yurachek has noted that direct comparisons matter most when teams are clustered closely together. Still, for Tennessee supporters, the gap between the two teams is hard to ignore, especially with both programs still carrying games ahead that could reshape the picture and either validate the current order or stir the argument up all over again. Tennessee Is Suddenly In Position For Its Next 5-Star Win

The recruiting board has a familiar high-end name back on it for Tennessee, and this one is still wide open. Five-star point guard Nasir Anderson remains uncommitted in the 2027 class, with Tennessee and Virginia emerging as the programs out front after a round of visits that has put the Vols squarely in the mix for one of the countrys top guards.

Anderson is ranked 12th nationally by Rivals, which gives Tennessee a real chance to add another elite piece to its pipeline if it can finish the job. The Vols last landed a five-star recruit two years ago in Nate Ament, and he has since been drafted into the NBA, a reminder of how much value a top-tier prospect can bring to the program if this pursuit breaks Tennessees way.
