Tennessee’s fall camp took a sharp turn Saturday with news that second-year linebacker Jaedon Harmon has torn his ACL and will miss the 2026 season.
Harmon went down in practice this week, and further testing confirmed the injury. For Josh Heupel’s program, it’s a painful blow to a player who looked ready to push for a bigger role after flashing as a true freshman. The 6-foot, 225-pound linebacker was expected to make a jump this fall, but now his next shot will have to wait until 2027.
Last season, Harmon made the most of his chances, finishing with 19 total tackles, including 12 solo stops, along with one pass deflection and 0.5 sacks.
The injury is another tough break for Tennessee on the defensive side, and it comes at a time when the Vols are already juggling more bad news. Miami transfer defensive back Jadais Richard also won’t be available this year after suffering a serious injury while working out back home and needing surgery.
Harmon’s absence also tightens the screws at linebacker for defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. Arion Carter is already suspended for the first two games, leaving Tennessee thin at a spot that now needs even more reshuffling before the Sept. 5 opener against Furman.
A member of Tennessee’s 2025 class, Harmon arrived as a four-star recruit and the No. 18 linebacker in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite. He had been pushing for meaningful playing time this season, making the timing of the injury especially hard to swallow.
