Tennessee basketball is making the most of a busy recruiting stretch in Knoxville, and the timing could hardly be better.
With Tennessee football set to host top-ranked Texas on Saturday, Rick Barnes and the Vols are working in the same high-profile backdrop that is bringing plenty of elite talent to campus. According to 247, Tennessee already welcomed one five-star prospect earlier this week and is set to bring in two more recruits for weekend visits.
The headliner to arrive midweek was five-star point guard Reese Alston. He is ranked No. 9 overall in the nation in the 2027 class by 247, checking in as the No. 4 point guard and the No. 1 player from Texas. Alston is from Houston and plays for Houston Second Baptist.
The weekend visitors are both four-star forwards, Davis Cochran and Malachi Jordan.
Cochran is an in-state target for the Vols, coming out of Brentwood. He is ranked No. 123 nationally in the 2027 class by 247 and is listed as the No. 23 power forward. He also stands as the No. 2 player in Tennessee.
Jordan brings a strong national profile of his own. He is ranked No. 23 in the country by 247, is the No. 7 small forward, and the No. 7 player from Florida. He plays for Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, though the 6-foot-7 wing is originally from Nashville, which gives him in-state ties.
Tennessee still doesn’t have a commitment in the 2027 class, but the Vols have already stacked the board with elite visitors. Under Barnes, they appear to be positioning themselves for another strong recruiting run.
