Lady Vols Summer Footage Raised One Big Question About This Roster

Get ready for an exciting season as the Lady Vols' summer practice tape unveils a rejuvenated lineup and hints at the team's dynamic potential under new leadership.

The Lady Vols are deep into summer work, and Tennessee gave fans a quick look behind the curtain with a practice highlight tape as Kim Caldwell’s new roster keeps taking shape.

The video featured several of the team’s newcomers, including Georgia transfer guard Rylie Theuerkauf, East Carolina transfer guard Kennedy Fauntleroy, Seton Hall transfer guard Jada Eads, Northern Arizona transfer guard Naomi White, international freshman guard Irene Oboavwoduo and Penn State transfer guard Shaelyn Steele.

This is a heavily rebuilt Tennessee group heading into the next season. The Lady Vols have 13 transfers and two incoming freshmen on the roster, though a number of players are currently working back from injuries. Liberty guard transfer Avery Mills also recently suffered a serious knee injury.

Tennessee’s staff has changed, too, with two new assistant coaches joining the program in Isoken Uzamere from Georgia and Bill Ferrara from Florida State.

Uzamere said the early impression around the group has been strong.

“Man, it’s crazy,” Uzamere said. “So I’ve been looking at halftime speeches from like Coach Summitt and all of that.

And she said a phrase and it was offense sells tickets, defense wins games, and then rebounding wins championships. And I think we have a little bit of all of that, a little bit of offense, a little bit of defense, a little bit of rebounding.

So I’m excited for the 15, and they’re hungry, chip on their shoulder, feisty. So I’m excited about that.”

Tennessee is also starting to fill out its non-conference schedule. The Lady Vols have confirmed dates for Nov. 4 at Coppin State, Nov. 17 at Belmont, Dec. 3 at Virginia Tech and Dec. 18 against Baylor in Nashville. Games at UConn and home matchups with UCLA and MTSU have been announced, but dates for those contests have not yet been set.

Boo Carter Just Got Pulled Into A Colorado Ranking Debate

ESPNs latest transfer portal update stirred up a little more debate around Colorado, and it had a ripple effect that reached all the way to Tennessee fans watching Boo Carters name get mentioned in the same conversation. After the outlet removed Texas Tech quarterback Brenen Sorsby because of a gambling investigation, Colorado wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. moved up to No. 26, giving the Buffs another notable addition to a portal class that already has people talking.

Moores appeal goes beyond the ranking itself. He arrives with SEC production on his rsum and a reputation for leadership, and Deion Sanders has gone so far as to call him the real leader in the receiver room. Even so, ESPN still left Carter, Danny Scudero and Gideon Lampron out of its Top 100, a reminder that preseason portal lists can create plenty of noise without settling much of anything once the games begin. Tennessee Just Sent A Loud Message About Its Quarterback Situation

Tennessees quarterback picture is still far from settled, and the program is acting like it. When SEC media days open in Tampa from July 20-23, the Vols will not send a quarterback at all, a clear sign that Josh Heupels staff is still treating the position as an open competition rather than a solved question. Instead, linebackers Arion Carter and Jeremiah Telander and running back DeSean Bishop will handle the teams player duties alongside Heupel.

The decision tracks with how spring practice ended, when Tennessee came out without naming a starter and left the door open for the battle to continue into preseason work. For a team trying to build momentum heading into the fall, it is a notable choice to put the spotlight elsewhere, even if the quarterback discussion is still the one everyone will be watching once camp begins. Tennessee Just Lost A Former Defensive Line Commit In Painful Fashion

Kadin Fifes recruitment has taken another sharp turn, and Tennessee is the program feeling the sting. The four-star defensive lineman had been part of the Vols 2027 plans before backing off his pledge, and after taking official visits to Ole Miss, Georgia and Tennessee, he has now moved on to another ACC program with a class that keeps growing.

For Tennessee, the timing only adds to the frustration. The Vols still have 16 commitments in the 2027 class, but only one defensive lineman in JUCO standout Christian Mays, which leaves a clear need up front as the cycle keeps moving. Fifes decision leaves that room even thinner, and it is the kind of miss that can linger when a position group is already light on numbers. [Read more 🡒]
