The Tennessee Lady Vols have just landed a major talent for their 2026 class, securing five-star recruit Oliviyah Edwards. Ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the nation by ESPN, Edwards is already making waves as she prepares for the McDonald’s All-American Game.
In a recent press conference, Edwards shared her thoughts on joining the Lady Vols, her impressive dunking ability, and more.
Reflecting on her journey, Edwards said, “Seeing my name on ESPN with my mom there capturing the moment was surreal. It’s a culmination of all the hard work and dedication I’ve put into basketball. Achieving this dream is incredible.”
Discussing her fellow McDonald’s All-Americans, Edwards noted, “Everyone’s talented at this level. It’s about appreciating the little things and understanding that in college, the competition is fierce. Getting a taste of that now is invaluable.”
When asked about playing against the No. 1 recruit, UNC signee Kate Harping, Edwards explained, “Guarding someone like Kate is tough, but as a big, my role was more about team defense and support. It’s great preparation for the next level, where everyone can control the game.”
On designing a Tennessee home jersey, Edwards mused, “I’d want to bring my own flair to it. I usually start with sketches and let inspiration strike from there.”
Regarding the rivalry with Vanderbilt and facing five-star VU signee Olivia Jones, Edwards expressed, “It’s a rivalry, but there’s mutual respect. After the game, win or lose, there’s always camaraderie. I’m excited to compete and grow together.”
Edwards shared her journey to dunking, “I started in 7th grade, just touching the rim. Over time, with training and perseverance, I’ve developed my ability to dunk, and it’s something I’m proud of.”
On participating in the dunk contest, she confirmed with enthusiasm, “Yessir.”
Following in the footsteps of Candace Parker at Tennessee, Edwards stated, “Candace is an icon. I’m eager to make history and inspire young girls to believe in their potential. My goal is to dominate at Tennessee and build on the legacy.”
Looking ahead to her time with the Lady Vols, Edwards said, “I’m thrilled to join the Tennessee family. Competing against top talent daily will drive my growth. It’s an exciting new chapter.”
Finally, on areas for improvement, Edwards candidly admitted, “Running is my focus. It’s challenging, but with practice, I’ll get better. I’m ready to tackle it head-on.”
