Lady Vols Just Put Their Offensive Ceiling Back In The Spotlight

The Lady Vols' overwhelming victory against Florida A&M not only adds to their storied exhibition record but also signals their formidable momentum as they head into the regular season.

Tennessee put on an offensive show Tuesday night and, in the process, added another eye-catching chapter to its exhibition history.

The Lady Vols rolled past Florida A&M 132-63 at Food City Center, pushing their all-time exhibition record to 55-5. The scoring burst also landed among the program’s biggest preseason outputs ever, with Tennessee’s 132 points ranking as the fifth-highest total in exhibition play.

It was another reminder of how quickly Kim Caldwell’s team can overwhelm an opponent with pace, pressure and volume. Tennessee has now hit at least 100 points in all three exhibition games under Caldwell, and Tuesday’s performance marked the first time the program has faced an NCAA Division I opponent in an exhibition.

The opening half set the tone. Tennessee scored 37 points in the first quarter and followed with 40 in the second, taking a 77-27 lead into halftime. From there, the Lady Vols kept the pressure on and never let Florida A&M settle in.

Eight Tennessee players finished in double figures. Kaylene Smikle led the way with 19 points, Naomi White added 16, and Riley Makalusky and Harissoum Coulibaly each chipped in 14.

The numbers across the board told the same story. Tennessee put up 101 field-goal attempts, forced 37 turnovers, collected 22 steals and controlled the glass 58-25.

The win also fit into a long-running exhibition standard that has followed the Lady Vols for decades. Tennessee is now 55-5 in preseason games overall, including a 15-1 mark since the end of the Pat Summitt era.

Those five exhibition losses have come against heavyweight competition: the Soviet National Team in 1979, Athletes in Action in 1992 and the United States National Team in 1995, 2007 and 2023.

The result won’t count in the regular-season standings, but it did offer a clear look at what Tennessee can bring: scoring depth, defensive pressure and a roster that can pile up points in a hurry.

The Lady Vols will open the 2026-27 season Monday, November 2, against Duquesne at Food City Center. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.

Tennessee Is Suddenly In The Fight For A Five Star Flip

The late-stage recruiting race around D.J. Jacobs has become one of those situations Tennessee fans have learned to watch closely, especially when a top national prospect starts looking around after being tied to another school for months. Jacobs, a five-star EDGE rusher in the 2027 class, has been verbally committed to Ohio State since December 2025, but his recent visits have kept the door open and put the Vols squarely in the conversation.

Tennessees appeal is not hard to understand. Proximity to family and existing coaching connections have given the Vols a real opening, and insiders around the recruitment have suggested this one could come down more to relationships than to a bigger pitch elsewhere. With Miami also in the mix and signing day nearing, Tennessee still has a chance to make a serious move, even if the finish line is not yet in sight. [Read more 🡒]

DeSean Bishop Update Matters For Tennessees Stretch Run

DeSean Bishops night at South Carolina ended early after the Tennessee running back went down with an injury and did not return, a setback that briefly put the Volunteers backfield rotation in focus during a crucial part of the schedule. Josh Heupels update afterward offered some relief, saying Bishop is expected to be in good condition for the coming week, which matters for a Tennessee offense that has leaned on his production all season.

Bishop has become one of the more important pieces of the Vols stretch run, sitting close to 1,000 rushing yards and giving Tennessee a reliable option as the games get bigger. With one year of eligibility still left after this season, his status is worth watching closely not just for what he means right now, but for what his presence could mean as Tennessee pushes through the final weeks. Vols Suddenly Have A Real Shot At Key 2027 DB Target

A major 2027 defensive back target could be nearing a college decision, and Tennessee has positioned itself right in the thick of it. Preston Glasco, the cornerback from Grayson High School in Georgia, has trimmed his list to Alabama, Georgia and the Vols after drawing multiple scholarship offers and staying in regular contact with Tennessees staff.

Glascos recent visit appears to have given Tennessee real momentum in a race that still includes two heavyweights from the SEC. The Vols have kept pressing for the Georgia prospect, and with an announcement expected soon, they now have a legitimate chance to land one of the more important defensive back targets in the cycle.
