The Lady Vols basketball program is shaking things up with a fresh addition to their coaching staff. After the recent departure of assistant coach Gabe Lazo, Tennessee swiftly moved to bring in Bill Ferrara from Florida State. Ferrara, who played a key role in shaping the Seminoles' high-octane offense and deadly three-point shooting over the past few seasons, is set to infuse the Lady Vols with his technical expertise and recruiting prowess.
Kim Caldwell, head coach of the Lady Vols, expressed her excitement about the new hire: “I am pleased to welcome Bill to our staff. His impact at Florida State speaks volumes, and we’re eager to see how his skills will elevate our program.”
Ferrara joins a dynamic coaching team at Tennessee, which includes Roman Tubner, Jenna Burdette, Angel Rizor, and Lexie Barrier. His journey to Tennessee is marked by a wealth of experience across various programs.
Before his stint at Florida State, Ferrara served as associate head coach at St. John’s and spent four years with New Mexico.
His SEC experience includes time with the Florida Gators, where he contributed under Amanda Butler. Notably, Ferrara also coached at George Washington, working with future WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Ferrara said, “I am thrilled to join Kim Caldwell’s staff at Tennessee and excited to be part of a program with such a rich history. I’m ready to bring my energy and experience to the Lady Vols and can’t wait to get on the floor with the most storied program in women’s basketball.”
Last season, the Lady Vols wrapped up with a 16-14 record, going 8-8 in SEC play. As the 6-seed in the SEC Tournament, they faced an early exit against Alabama in the second round.
In the NCAA Tournament, they secured a 10-seed but fell to NC State in the Round of 64 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With Ferrara now on board, there's a renewed sense of optimism for the upcoming season.
