Joshua Josephs, the former Tennessee EDGE rusher, might not be the most talked-about Vol in Indianapolis this week, but he's certainly a name to watch as we approach the NFL Draft. Josephs is gearing up for his on-field workouts at the NFL Combine, and he's ready to showcase his relentless motor and power at Lucas Oil Stadium.
During his time at Tennessee, Josephs had the privilege of learning from veteran defensive line coach Rodney Garner. He also shared the field with NFL talents like Byron Young and James Pearce Jr., gaining invaluable experience. Josephs played alongside Young during the 2022 season and with Pearce Jr. for three seasons, soaking in the skills and work ethic of his teammates.
At the NFL Combine, Josephs was asked which NFL player he models his game after, and he didn't hesitate to mention his former teammate. “I would have to say, starting off with Danielle Hunter,” Josephs noted.
“I watch him constantly for his hand usage. And definitely Byron Young.
From his first year to now, he’s improved so much, especially with his hands.”
Young, who was a third-round pick in 2023, quickly made a name for himself, becoming a Pro Bowler with the Rams by his third season. Josephs could find himself on a similar path, with early projections suggesting a third-round selection in the upcoming draft. His performance at the Combine will certainly provide more insight.
Bleacher Report’s scouting department has given Josephs a 7.0 grade, mirroring the grade Young received before the 2023 draft. Young's career trajectory is promising, with his tackle count rising from 61 in his rookie season to 82 in 2025, along with a career-high 12 sacks. It's clear that Young's game has evolved, and Josephs hopes to follow suit.
Josephs wrapped up his Tennessee career with 104 tackles over four seasons, peaking with 39 tackles in 2024 and four sacks in 2025. He also forced three fumbles in each of those seasons, showing his knack for making impactful plays.
Josephs is among seven former Vols at the Combine, joining the likes of quarterback Joey Aguilar, cornerbacks Jermod McCoy and Colton Hood, tight end Miles Kitselman, wide receiver Chris Brazzell, and defensive lineman Bryson Eason. Keep an eye on these Vols as they make their case for the next level in Indianapolis.
