Josh Dobbs Had Another Sideline Moment Tennessee Fans Will Appreciate

Josh Dobbs used resourceful thinking, not rocket science, to demonstrate his veteran instincts on the Lions' sideline, captivating fans and the internet alike.

Joshua Dobbs may have an aerospace engineering degree, but on the Detroit Lions’ sideline this past weekend, he didn’t need anything that fancy. The problem in front of him was simple, and he handled it with the kind of calm, no-drama efficiency that makes a backup quarterback look every bit the steady veteran.

A viral video making the rounds online this week showed Jared Goff pointing out that one of the coaches needed a different headset setup, with the microphone and earpiece switched to the other side. Dobbs didn’t go hunting for a replacement. He just took the headset, twisted the microphone to the other side, and handed it back.

He never said a word.

That was the whole joke, and also the whole point. It was a small moment, but it played like classic veteran sideline presence. As the Lions put it: “It’s not rocket science… or is it?”

Dobbs is in the first year of his second stint with Detroit after signing with the Lions in the offseason. He arrived after spending last season as Drake Maye’s backup with the Patriots during New England’s Super Bowl run.

So far this season, Dobbs hasn’t taken the field, but he did make his case in the preseason. He finished with 234 passing yards, two touchdowns, and one interception while completing 66.7% of his throws. He also added a rushing touchdown.

Before the season, ESPN ranked him as the 17th-best backup quarterback in the league. That’s a modest slot for a player with his experience, but Dobbs keeps adding to the résumé in ways that go beyond box scores.

Now 31, he’s entering his 10th season in the league.

Tennessee Fans May Want To Notice This Famous-Name QB

The attention around quarterback recruiting in Tennessee already comes with plenty of noise, but Bo Bryan gave people plenty to notice Friday night. The Battle Ground Academy starter and son of country music star Luke Bryan put together a huge showing against Franklin Road Academy, completing 24 of 33 passes for 404 yards and six touchdowns in a win that should only add to his growing profile.

Bryan is already carrying multiple college offers and is ranked as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2027, so performances like this can only help him keep climbing the radar. New Lady Vol Rylie Theuerkauf Already Sounds Built For Tennessee

Official practice for the 2026-27 season has only just begun, but Rylie Theuerkauf is already speaking like a player who knows exactly why she came to Tennessee. The senior guard arrived after stops at Wake Forest and Georgia, and her move brought her back alongside assistant coach Isoken Uzamere and teammate Zhen Craft, two familiar connections in a new setting. There is always an adjustment period with a transfer, especially one who has already lived in more than one program, but Theuerkauf sounded comfortable describing the transition and the work that went into getting settled with the Lady Vols.

What stands out most is how quickly she has bought into the bigger picture around Kim Caldwells team. Theuerkauf talked about chemistry, the gains made over the summer, and the trust she has in Caldwell as Tennessee starts to put its pieces together. For a program that expects newcomers to fit into a demanding standard fast, that matters, and it suggests Theuerkauf may be more than just another veteran guard in the rotation. She already sounds like someone who understands the assignment, even if the real proof will come once the games begin. [Read more 🡒]

Vols In The NFL Included A Rookie Moment And A Game Saver

Week 3 of the 2026 NFL season brought a little bit of everything for former Tennessee players, from first-game nerves to late-game impact. Rookie Bryson Eason made his NFL debut for the Kansas City Chiefs and logged his first tackle, while several other ex-Vols were scattered across the league getting on the field, picking up tackles, earning starts and adding snaps for their teams.

Derek Barnett had one of the more notable moments of the weekend for the Tennessee pipeline, helping the Cleveland Browns close out a win by pressuring the quarterback on the game-sealing play. For a program that keeps sending talent to the next level, it was another reminder that Vols can show up in different ways on Sundays, whether it is a newcomer finding his footing or a veteran making a play when it matters most.
