The Jaguars added another quarterback to their practice squad on Monday, bringing in Joey Aguilar after waiving him Sunday as part of the team’s moves ahead of the 53-man roster cut deadline following the preseason.
Aguilar isn’t the only quarterback Jacksonville added to its practice squad. The Jaguars also signed Nick Mullens, giving the group another arm as they sorted out the roster after cutdown day.
Jacksonville’s practice squad haul went well beyond the quarterback room. The team also added defensive tackle T.J. Bollers, offensive lineman Geron Christian Sr., wide receiver Tim Jones, linebacker Jack Kiser, linebacker Jalen McLeod, cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, offensive lineman Jimto Obidegwu, wide receiver Trebor Pena, safety Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig, running back J'Mari Taylor, wide receiver Austin Trammell, wide receiver Michael Wortham and offensive lineman Kilian Zierer through the International Pathway Program.
Aguilar spent one season at Tennessee in 2025 and made the most of it. In 13 games with the Vols, he completed 272 of 404 passes for 3,565 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
His move to Jacksonville was part of a broader round of former Vols getting released, waived or signed to practice squads ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Among the names listed were William Wright, Joe Milton III, Tyre West, McCallan Castles, Dominic Bailey, Jerome Carvin, Jaxson Moi, Jalin Hyatt, Bryson Eason, Hendon Hooker, Jalen McMurray, Matthew Butler, Velus Jones Jr., Shy Tuttle, James Pearce Jr., Cade Mays and Omarr Norman-Lott.
Tyre West was waived by the Detroit Lions and later signed to their practice squad, while Dominic Bailey followed the same path with the Houston Texans. Hendon Hooker was waived by the Tennessee Titans and signed to their practice squad, and Jalen McMurray did the same with the Titans as well.
Jalin Hyatt was waived by the New York Giants and listed as a practice squad veteran. Matthew Butler was released by the Miami Dolphins, Velus Jones Jr. was terminated as a vested veteran by the Seattle Seahawks, Shy Tuttle was released by the Washington Commanders, James Pearce Jr. was reserved/suspended by the Atlanta Falcons, Cade Mays was placed on reserve/injured by the Detroit Lions, and Omarr Norman-Lott landed on reserve/PUP with the Kansas City Chiefs.
