The Eagles are making a quarterback switch, and the move puts Joe Milton in the spotlight for the first time as an NFL starter.
Philadelphia is turning to the former Tennessee quarterback for Week 9 against the New York Giants, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Tanner McKee is being benched for Sunday’s game, and Milton will get the nod as the Eagles try to sort through a season that has gone off the rails.
The change comes with the Eagles sitting at 2-6 and dealing with a roster hit hard by injuries. Jalen Hurts is done for the year with blood clots, while DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley have been unavailable every other week. The source of the problem has spread beyond the offense, too, with the defense taking a hit because of how the offense has played.
Milton’s path to this moment has been a winding one. He entered the league as a sixth-round pick, No. 193 overall, by the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft.
That pick originally belonged to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who sent it to New England in the Mac Jones trade. The Patriots later moved Milton to the Dallas Cowboys before the 2025 NFL Draft after he flashed in their 2024 season finale.
That final game with New England was the best of his brief pro career so far. Milton completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown, good for a 75.9% completion rate, in a 23-16 win over the Buffalo Bills.
Now he gets a much bigger stage. Sunday’s matchup with the Giants, set for 1:00 p.m. ET, will be Milton’s first NFL start.

Tennessee Just Got More CFP Motivation Than Vols Fans Can Ignore
The first College Football Playoff rankings gave Tennessee a spot at No. 13, while Alabama landed at No. 5, a placement that caught plenty of attention after the Vols beat the Crimson Tide on the field. CFP Committee Chair Hunter Yurachek pointed to Alabamas stronger collection of quality wins as the reason behind the early gap, which only adds another layer to a race Tennessee still has time to influence.
For a Vols team still chasing its best path forward, the message is pretty clear: the opening rankings are only a snapshot, not a verdict. Tennessees upcoming games now carry even more weight, because a strong finish could reshape how the committee views the resume and give the Vols a chance to climb when the next set of rankings arrives. Even A Former Alabama QB Thinks Tennessee Got Jobbed
The latest College Football Playoff rankings have only deepened the frustration around Tennessees spot at No. 13, especially with Alabama sitting at No. 5 despite the Volunteers head-to-head win over the Crimson Tide. The debate has spilled beyond Knoxville, too, with former Alabama quarterback and ESPN broadcaster Greg McElroy among those openly questioning how the committee is weighing Tennessees resume against Alabamas.
What has made the reaction louder is the committees shifting emphasis from week to week, with head-to-head results carrying real weight in some cases and seeming to fade in others. Tennessees supporters have every reason to feel the inconsistency, and the broader issue now is whether the rankings are rewarding the right things or simply creating more confusion as the playoff picture tightens. Amare Campbell Just Framed Tennessees Biggest Defensive Test Vs Kentucky
After a bye week, Tennessee turns its attention to a Week 10 SEC matchup with Kentucky carrying a 6-2 record and a No. 16 AP ranking. Josh Heupels group has had time to reset, but the conversation around the Vols has shifted quickly from rest to readiness, especially on the defensive side where the next test figures to be as much about communication as it is about talent.
Amare Campbell helped put that into focus when he met with the media, talking through his confidence and the challenges that come with getting everyone on the same page in loud road-style environments. For Tennessee, the bigger question is how well the defense can stay connected when the game gets chaotic, because Kentucky is the kind of opponent that can expose any hesitation in a hurry.
