The NFL Scouting Combine is set to kick off Thursday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Among the hopefuls is former Tennessee defensive back Jermod McCoy, who received an invite to showcase his skills.
However, there's a twist in McCoy's journey. ESPN's Jordan Reid shared that McCoy will be sitting out the position drills and workouts at the combine. This decision comes as McCoy continues to recover from a knee injury that sidelined him throughout the 2025 season.
Standing at 6 feet and weighing 193 pounds, McCoy made quite an impression during his debut season with the Vols in 2024. He racked up 44 tackles, half a tackle for loss, and snagged four interceptions, returning them for a total of 71 yards. His knack for disrupting passes was evident with 13 deflections, and he also contributed on special teams with six punt returns for 59 yards.
Before his time at Tennessee, McCoy was part of the Oregon State roster, transferring after the 2023 season. As the NFL Draft approaches, scheduled for April 23-25 in Pittsburgh, McCoy's next steps will be closely watched by scouts and fans alike. Despite the setback, his past performances have already caught the attention of those in the know.
