A tense third quarter at Bobby Dodd Stadium took the night in a different direction Saturday when Georgia Tech’s Jaylen Mbakwe and Jordan Walker both had to be taken off the field after a violent collision in the game against Tennessee.
The play left Walker grimacing in pain as he was carried off, while Mbakwe, the former Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back, stayed motionless on the turf for a stretch that made the scene feel even more alarming. What started as a football collision quickly turned into a full-stadium pause, with teammates, coaches and fans falling silent as medical staff rushed in.
Mbakwe was eventually placed on a stretcher and transported to an ambulance.
There was, however, one small moment that brought some relief. ESPN cameras caught Mbakwe giving a thumbs-up as he was being taken away, a sign that at least showed he was conscious and able to respond to those around him. It didn’t reveal anything about his condition, but it did offer a little comfort in the middle of a frightening sequence.
Walker also needed help leaving the field, adding to the concern for Georgia Tech as both players received immediate medical attention after the collision. The entire scene shifted the focus away from the scoreboard and onto the health of two Yellow Jackets players.
For Georgia Tech, the hope now is that both Mbakwe and Walker can recover fully after a scary moment that stopped the game and left Bobby Dodd Stadium watching and waiting for updates.

Faizon Brandon Passed Tennessees First Road Test Now Comes The Real Challenge
Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon handled his first road start with the kind of calm Tennessee could reasonably ask for, helping the Volunteers leave Georgia Tech with a 45-24 victory. Brandon completed 10 of 21 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns, added 22 rushing yards and, most importantly for a young quarterback in a tough setting, kept the game under control without turning the ball over.
Now the test gets more interesting. Brandon has already shown he can navigate a hostile environment and make enough plays to back up the rest of Tennessee's talent, but the next stretch will ask for more than poise and caution.
