Florida’s hold on Maxwell Hiller is already being tested, and the pressure is coming from two SEC heavyweights.
Hiller, the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2027 class and the top-ranked offensive lineman in the cycle, committed to the Gators in April. But with August approaching and the recruiting calendar only getting more volatile from here, that pledge is far from the end of the story.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman told On3’s Corey Bender that LSU and Tennessee are the programs he hears from most often.
“The most I hear from, I’d say, are LSU and Tennessee," Hiller said in an interview with On3's Corey Bender.
That doesn’t mean Florida is losing ground yet. Hiller took his only official visit to Gainesville in June, and the Gators are set to welcome him back multiple times this fall. That gives Jon Sumrall’s staff a real chance to reinforce the commitment before the season turns into a full-blown flip chase.
Florida has built a strong class so far, stacking 26 commitments and 12 recruits ranked inside the top 200. That haul currently sits at No. 9 nationally, and Hiller is the headliner.
Still, the longer a player like Hiller stays on the market, the more attention he’s going to draw. He hasn’t shut the door on other visits either, saying he is considering trips during the season, though he didn’t spell out where those might be.
LSU remains a familiar threat on the recruiting trail. The Tigers are sitting at No. 10 in the country and already have four-star offensive tackle Terrance Smith and three-star offensive tackle Amaziah Siale in the fold.
Tennessee is pushing hard as well. The Volunteers just landed five-star running back David Gabriel Georges over Ohio State, a move that showed they can still go big when they want to. If this turns into a battle of resources and momentum, Tennessee has the backing to stay in it.
For now, Florida has the commitment. But with LSU and Tennessee still working and Hiller still open to more visits, this one is going to keep drawing attention until signing day.
