Colton Hood Stuns With Impressive NFL Combine Results

Tennessee's Colton Hood dazzles at the NFL Combine, fueling first-round draft buzz with elite athleticism and standout collegiate performance.

Colton Hood's Meteoric Rise at the NFL Combine

In the world of college football, few players have seen their stock rise as rapidly as Tennessee's Colton Hood. Coming off a standout All-SEC season, Hood's performance at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis has only solidified his status as a top prospect. With a blazing 4.44-second 40-yard dash, a 40.5-inch vertical leap, and a broad jump of 10 feet, 5 inches, Hood's athletic prowess was on full display at Lucas Oil Stadium.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah couldn't help but highlight Hood's "first-round testing" to complement his impressive game tape from the 2025 season. Hood's journey to the Combine was anything but straightforward.

He started at Auburn in 2023, moved to Colorado where he contributed significantly on defense and special teams, and finally found his stride at Tennessee. In his lone season with the Vols, Hood racked up 50 tackles, eight pass breakups, and two defensive touchdowns, earning the second-best Pro Football Focus coverage grade among SEC cornerbacks.

Reflecting on his journey, Hood remarked, "Every time you go up a level, the players get better. I’m going to get better, too, so I’m going to take a step."

Standing at 5-foot-11 5/8 and weighing in at 193 pounds, Hood's physical attributes drew comparisons to NFL star Marshon Lattimore. Like Lattimore, Hood is known for his versatility on the field.

Analyst Charles Davis noted, "He wants to be the complete corner, and he has no problems getting involved in the run game as well as covering people downfield." Jeremiah added, "He’s tough, a sure tackler, and has really good eyes."

Hood's agility and ball skills shone during position drills, further cementing his status as a top prospect. Jeremiah ranks him as the No. 26 overall player and the third-best cornerback in his latest top 50 draft prospects.

Despite spending just one season at Tennessee, Hood expressed gratitude for his time with the Vols. "They’re definitely really passionate about their team," he said.

"They showed me a lot of love. I love the fan base and everything about Tennessee.

They brought me in, treated me like family."

As Hood continues to impress scouts and analysts alike, his journey from college standout to potential first-round draft pick is a testament to his hard work and dedication. The NFL world is eagerly watching to see where this talented cornerback will land.
