College GameDay Just Handed Kentucky Fans A Tennessee Debate

With high-stakes matchups on the horizon, see how the College GameDay experts are splitting their picks for Week 10's biggest games.

College GameDay’s Week 10 picks came in with a clear theme: the panel is leaning hard into the heavyweights, with almost every voice landing on the same side in the biggest matchups.

The day’s guest picker was Notre Dame fan and Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis, and he joined Desmond Howard, Nick Saban, Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit in making their calls for Saturday’s slate. In several games, the group was nearly unanimous.

Ohio State drew a full sweep from Howard, Saban, McAfee, Sudeikis and Herbstreit. South Carolina did, too, with all five backing the Gamecocks.

Utah also earned broad support, with Howard, Saban, Sudeikis and Herbstreit taking the Utes while McAfee went with BYU.

There were a few splits along the way. In Texas-Missouri, Howard, Saban, Sudeikis and Herbstreit were on Texas, while McAfee took Missouri.

Tennessee-Kentucky followed a similar pattern, with McAfee alone on Kentucky and the rest of the panel picking Tennessee. Georgia-Ole Miss was another divided call, as McAfee backed Ole Miss and the others went with Georgia.

The biggest disagreement came in LSU-Alabama. Howard, McAfee and Sudeikis took LSU, while Saban went with Alabama. Miami-Notre Dame also leaned heavily one way, with Howard choosing Miami and Saban, Herbstreit, Sudeikis and McAfee all picking Notre Dame.

The panel’s written breakdowns pointed to the same factors across the board. Utah was favored over BYU because of home field advantage and an inspired defense against a BYU offense that isn’t running the ball as well as it could.

Texas was picked over Missouri on the strength of the Longhorns’ pass rush and run stop, not necessarily Arch Manning. Alabama was chosen over LSU because the Crimson Tide has a little more firepower to spread the field.

Ohio State got the nod over Oregon with the idea that the Buckeyes’ defense has to carry the load and help their green quarterback. Tennessee was selected over Kentucky thanks to the Vols’ defense and run game.

Georgia was favored over Ole Miss, with Kewan Lacy’s absence noted as a possible issue for the Rebels even though they should still test the Bulldogs’ secondary. And Notre Dame was picked over Miami, with Malachi Toney’s absence and Miami’s pass defense cited as factors, even as the Hurricanes’ run game was acknowledged.

Kentucky Just Gave Tennessee Fans Another Reason To Bring It Saturday

The Rock at the University of Tennessee did not stay blue for long after Kentucky fans left their mark with messages backing the Wildcats ahead of Saturdays football game. Tennessee quickly painted it back, but the brief takeover was enough to add another layer of edge to a rivalry that already had plenty of it, especially with Kentucky carrying a top-10 ranking into the matchup.

For Tennessee fans, it is the kind of pregame fuel that tends to travel well from campus to Neyland Stadium. The Volunteers are favored, but the backdrop now includes a little extra motivation and a reminder that this one is about more than just the standings. [Read more 🡒]

Kentucky Fans Just Turned Tennessees Campus Into Rivalry Fuel

A familiar piece of campus real estate became the latest flashpoint in the Tennessee-Kentucky rivalry when Kentucky fans painted The Rock blue with white lettering before the football game. The landmark on the University of Tennessee campus has long been a canvas for student expression, but this time it became a very public target in the lead-up to a matchup that already carries plenty of edge.

Tennessee fans quickly moved to remove the paint, and the scene at the site briefly turned tense before settling down. It was the kind of small, petty, very on-brand rivalry stunt that reminds everyone how much this series still means, with kickoff set for later in the day and both sides already treating the campus prank as part of the buildup. Alabama LSU Could Reshape The Tides Playoff Picture Fast

Week 10 brings three rivalry games with real playoff weight, and the ripple effects could reach Tennessee quickly. Alabama vs. LSU has the biggest national spotlight, but Utah vs. BYU and Tennessee vs. Kentucky also sit in the mix as the College Football Playoff race starts to sort itself out. ESPNs FPI gives a snapshot of where each team stands, but this weekend is the kind of slate that can change those numbers in a hurry.

For Tennessee, the interest is obvious: the Volunteers are watching a crowded field, and the results around them matter almost as much as their own. A strong showing from the teams ahead of them, or a stumble from one of the contenders, could reshape the path through the rankings and alter how the playoff conversation looks by Sunday. In a week built around rivalry pressure, the Volunteers have plenty of reason to keep one eye on their own game and the other on the scoreboard elsewhere. [Read more 🡒]
